THE TRUMP 2024 THREAD

Trump told us he would need 18 months, maximum, to get energy prices down. We'll see.
2019: The U.S. first became a net exporter of petroleum on an annual basis in 2019, marking the first time since at least 1949 (when comprehensive records began). Total petroleum exports exceeded imports, driven by a surge in domestic crude oil production (particularly from shale) and increased exports of refined products like gasoline and diesel.

Exxon is predicting a 2 million barrel daily increase under Trump. Every bit we produce will bring oil prices down.
Not so fast. Crude oil is a global commodity in a global market. If Exxon produces 2,000,000 more daily OPEC could decide to cut back. The net effect is very little change in price of petroleum.

If, if, if. If we're producing most of our needs then OPEC cutting back would raise prices for everyone, not just the U.S. Which could lead to a worldwide recession. There's a fine line they walk. But understand this. Our cost of living is higher than most if the world. It's politically astute to get prices lower. Any party standing in the way of that is going to suffer.

"If" is exactly the word a lot of companies start with before they make a multi-billion dollar decision. Just saying. It's not always so simple.

I do agree we need to produce crude and a lot of it. We have been for years. And natural gas. The sky isn't falling because we import a portion of it. It actually could be viewed as a strategic decision by making sketchy countries reliant on us.

I agree to some extent. But you're not hearing me. The average family needs relief after the run up in inflation. They don't care about sketchy countries. And they'll vote for whoever is helping them. The Dems forgot a lot of that when they decided it was more important to support illegals than the poor American citizens they always claimed to care about. Lost a bigger percentage of minority voters than ever. It's all interconnected. You fight Trump on everything. He succeeds in lowering prices. Who wins the vote?

The median family's wages were up above the rate of inflation before the election. But feelings are powerful, I get it. There was a "throw the bastards out" attitude all over Europe, too, after the pandemic. It was going to be a slog no matter what. Even Trump lost the presidency once because of anxiety over the pandemic.

I'm simply saying that producing 100% of the crude oil domestically isn't a panacea to the woes of the American family's monthly budget. It's a hell of a lot more complicated than that.

Retired 2020. Not my Problem Anymore!
What a great day I had. On top of a great day I find out Gas is going down, egg prices are going down, inflation is lower that expected, the NASDAQ and S&P 500 are up and yet the Democrats are still crying, screaming and nashing their teeth over Trump. It is just a win win kind of day. Well off to sleep land I go. Enjoy everyone!
