I think he settled on Trump because he was easier to get to at the time he started formulating his plans.

Also could simply be Crooks believed Trump wasn’t conservative enough.

Grazed someone in the head from around a football field and a half away with an iron sighted rifle while under pressure from law enforcement trying to get on the roof with him.
