In my opinion on., it's a Toss up between them or ac dc, as one of the best rock groups.

I never looked at those groups as really competing against each other. There was overlap but AC/DC hit it big a few tears earlier. They were also a better band and had a lot less internal friction in my opinion.

Not competing, no. I'll rephrase my comment, and say they are 2 of my favorites as far as rock goes.

I really liked earlier Van Halen but their quality nosedived as their popularity rose.
