What was the world port before world port

Before worldport was built, does anyone know what would be the “big hub” for everything air related if there was one? Just curious

It started, and has always been, at SDFAS (Louisville airport)

it just wasnt called Worldport back then. It started small and grew as UPS Airlines was formed and air service grew.

Eventually, Dayton, Ohio, the Emery hub closed soon after the HWP expansion.

At the time of the Menlo acquisition SDFS was running out of capacity, which consultants suggested that UPS get another hub 100 miles from SDFAS. I believe Menlo was 130 miles away. Had everything in place for the expansion. That information fe3ll on deaf ears.......

1980 Worldport opened with contracted airlines/crew like Orion,Ryan Air, Evergreen and others. Yes I wrote Orion. They had 727s, a few 74s, and the largest DC8 fleet in the world. Airline Deregulation was 77? and UPS got their Airline Certificate in the early 80s. Next Day air started mid 80s. Pkg car license plates and pocket protectors had the Next Day Air logo on them. Now airs just sit if they are late. Need to know what a pocket protectors is….Go look it up.

Federal Express World Hub opened in Memphis in 1973. Worldport was not created until 1985.
