Why collective bargaining?

You guys can't answer about the ACA's affect on our concessionary contract without either admitting that Democrats screwed unions again or exposing yourselves as liars. Lol that's why you've avoided the questions. You can't blame RTW for any if it, only the ACA. Such tools you guys are.. :)

We never had the right to strike during negotiations. Its public record. The proper paperwork was not filed. Thats why we have a weak contract

...And they didn't file the papers because it was raining that day... How can anyone take you seriously at this point? What a bunch of fail.

You are totally clueless on national negotiations. Why do you think there wasn't a strike vote, it was authorized under the Taft-Hartley laws. They had no intention of striking. Teamcare was hall baby, not Ups. It was a plan to prop up Teamsters already in the plan. You can blame ACA and liberals all you want, I choose to vote out our executive board. I will not give up on this union, and stick my head in the sand like rtw's

You really need to research why we got the weak contract we did. A negotiating team that were begging for scraps. We had no hammer, no right to strike. I guess that was Obama's fault too. You are connecting ACA with a negotiated healthcare program. Its just an excuse for you to blame everything on the liberals. You really research the negotiations, before you start creating boogymen in D.C.

Check out Fred Z's comments in the last "take back our union" in Louisville. Its online. He describes legal process that GEB failed to do before negotiations

Awww you guys strained your brains for a week & finally came up with an answer. Just not a very believable one. According to our chief negotiator who at the very beginning of contract negotiations (you guys saw the letters) sited a presentation that the company had given on the skyrocketing costs of health insurance post ACA. Hall conceded the company's presentation and said they were looking for "creative solutions to the problem". That was the beginning of the battle to salvage our benefits. You guys have been around long enough to know this and to claim otherwise only exposes you as a couple of lying stacks. Not filing paperwork is a pathetic excuse to cover for the failures of our leadership. They could have filed even after the no vote. You guys might find comfort in your BS but we aren't the only union loosing out to ObamaCare. Almost every major union has sited the new healthcare law as a major obstacle in maintaining the level of benefits that their members had grown accustomed to...and you know it. :)

Are the Democrats perfect? no. Are the Republicans perfect? no. Is the IBT perfect? no. But if you think that for one minute that you would have any of the pay and benefits that you enjoy now without the IBT, then you are delusional.

Companies, as a whole, try to pay the least they can to keep their employees, and with the IBT negotiating for us, then we have a voice, and don't have to take what the company says we get. Those who reap the benefits of that voice, and doesn't contribute to that voice, is a scab, and a freeloader.

I understand your chest thumping support of our union as I once felt the same way. Today my support is a bit more rational & less emotional. There's no question that without the strength & solidarity of this union we would not enjoy the wages & benefits that we earn. Nobody is arguing otherwise. I'm also under no illusion that our union today is choosing to support the interests of liberals in Washington OVER the interests of dues paying members. As I've said before, the freeloaders of today are sitting in the IBT office living large off our labor, taking in huge salaries, only to sell out more & more of the benefits we earn to Washington liberals. They have become worse than any scab. More like a flesh eating bacteria that can only be cured by severing the infected areas completely, not for the purpose of self destruction but for self preservation. Our union is destroying itself from within by embracing the lefts politics of division.

Not emotional here. Just don't like to leech off my fellow workers.

How can you change anything when you opt out in your precious Rtw states. You can't vote or run for office. You are a armchair quarterback

When enough people begin to opt out of paying dues our union leadership will take notice & hopefully change course. In RTW states you can also choose to reinstate the union due withdrawals that you had previously opted out of once your & your families best interests have returned to being our union leaders main focus. Until then we can expect more of the same lies & misrepresentation while our leadership continues to use the power of our name & finances to support the expanding welfare state & the historical integration of the working class into the welcoming arms of dependency.

One of the things I don't understand about RTW enthusiasts, is some of their concerns about internal union politics and officers are legitimate. What I don't understand is this " take my ball and go home" attitude. It is my understanding, if they opt out of the union, they give up their rights to vote or run for office. If you want to change this organization get involved and change the system from within

All it takes to run for office in this union is 24 months in good standing. Put your concerns into action, mobilization, grassroots rank and file organizations to take this union back. Not " im not paying dues cause I don't like this" my gosh that is such a chicken ---- move.

I'm not as much of a RTW enthusiast as I just enjoy pointing out how our union leaders contrive & embellish the RTW issue to keep the rank & file distracted while they trade away our earnings in backroom deals with Democrats. We were told we'd take a $5k per year pay cut if RTW passed in our state but years later the only thing that's been cut is our earned health insurance benefits. Lies & more lies from union leaders & liberals.

Step one-raise awareness. Hard to focus on the real issues at hand if everyone thinks our biggest battle is RTW legislation.
