Why?

I usually deliver exclusively from map view. The only way to make the job make sense. With all the faults that came with DIAD 6, this was the greatest thing to ever happen to the DIAD. It would be just like UPS to eliminate our best tool for the job.

Good thing I wore my brown pants
Or the on-cars when their phones are blown up.
If your center blows up your on-cars phone and not the diad, then your center is weak, as the only communication between you and your sup should always be professional and on the record and through provided ups channels. Always hold them accountable for their words. It's really the only weapon we have against them. force them to put it in writing. Put your phone away, and do the job. Who cares. Work as directed.

Oh you have no idea how much you’re preaching to the choir.

I have never used the map feature in the Diad. Does it make your day easier
As a cover driver I find it useful. Less thinking. Click the dot on the map then follow the blue line. By relying on it I have lost area knowledge. When it goes away it will take me some time to relearn routes in the way I used to know them.

Yep everything will be fine

Deranged lunatic
The map i believe uses a locally downloaded, free repository called OpenStreetMaps. So you can practically rule out data and licensing concerns from the list of reasons why (Not like UPS has ever, or will ever, do something that makes sense)

If by fine, you mean "worse every day" as I have been promised by now multiple retired drivers, then yea, OK.

Guess since I have a route is why I don’t use it. When I was a cover driver you didn’t have all this in a Diad. I can memorize my route looking through my Edd. Don’t use Orion either. I’m at my same stops everyday at the same time.

I mean, I don’t care as long as the checks keep cashing. What do I care? I never used the map.. when I started, we didn’t even have EDD and the job got done just fine. Sounds like a THEM problem not ME problem.

We have more tools now to avoid overtime than we’ve ever had. They make the job harder just use those tools.

I used to know some routes like that. When I started we didn't have cradles but I do think you could pull up a map on the diad while walking. I'm sure I can learn again. Or just follow Orion. Whatever. UPS obviously doesn't care, why would anyone else?

As much as I appreciate the mindset, I don't think losing my ability to clear up a route before rush hour and have decent break and lunch spots is entirely a THEM problem. Orion is kind of the nuclear option I want to avoid triggering because of the QOL and safety degredation.

I deliver exclusively out of the map function until the last 9 stops since that's what fits on a screen. My Orion solution is always jacked. I ran it for a week straight, putting in the same effort I normally do, and was over 2+ hours every single day. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the extra money, but it was just frustrating driving past stops repeatedly to do other stops. But the most important reason I do it is that I have over 15 separate gated communities I deliver to. It's nice to know whether I should turn left or right when I enter to deliver the most stops without crossing the street.

Anyhow, my theory on this is that they're wanting the delivery window time we give customers to be more accurate. Let's see how that works when I have to move 10 irregs out of the car to get to that Amazon bubble mailer sitting in the middle of my 7k shelf the next 2 months. 🤷‍♂️

I have NOT been lurking

Eat. Sleep. Work. Jork.
Or the on-cars when their phones are blown up.

ALMOST.

That’s just an excuse
