710, 705?

I'm a 705 guy. I'll be voting no on the contract proposal. The biggest reason is the Teamcare. I've looked it over, and it seems like decent coverage. Problem is that it's just not as good as what we currently have, and why the hell should we settle for ANYTHING less?!?
Does it bother you that you won't get a raise for five years?

I'm voting no. I'm also pretty sure this thing will be approved anyway. Wage goes from $32.325 up to $36.225 over the life of the contract. I would like a little more of course, but I can certainly live with it.

I agree with both things you are saying. I just wondered what the vibe is in local 705.

Most guys just want the retro check at this point. Lol! Since its cold, there's a lot less chatter in the lot after work, where much union talk takes place. Being peak, there's too much other stuff going on to really catch any kind of vibe at all, now that I think about it. Maybe one side or the other time the ballot mailing this way? Idk.

Just remembered that I found this flyer. Don't know who was passing them out...

I am in 710 and I'll be voting yes. But it will not matter, both of these contracts will be implemented anyway. I don't understand how anyone could vote no. We will be making $36hr at end of contract, we cant expect great pay and great insurance. Why do we deserve better insurance than the national? As far as the retro check goes, that is negotiated, UPS doesn't have to pay us that. Don't vote no for spite, Its clear this is the best offer we will get.

I would rather have great insurance over big raises. All it takes is one time getting sick and u will find out! As for us getting a better contract than the national if they had the balls to vote it down they would have a better contract!!! If u read your contract the company has to pay us the retro pay.

You misunderstood, the retro was part of the negotiations, if we vote this down they can try to negotiate not paying the backpay. Make sense?

This is not true. Back pay is guaranteed under the current
Contract and cannot be changed based on the outcome of the vote on the new agreement.

Yes it is true, its part of the negotiating process after contract was voted down. Again why are you posting on this thread? Are you in 705 or 710?

If you think a No vote is going to lose you you're retro pay then you are just the panicky type UPS is counting on to get the contract pushed through. The retro pay is guaranteed regardless.

As far as your question of getting better than the national, that's something 705/710 has always been known for and admired. If the national took a pay freeze or concession would you want 705/710 to just cave and give in because other locals did?

Union strength is what has gotten us what we have now. Is the weak like you that UPS counts on to undermine that strength.

Not gonna argue. If either side decides to cancel extension of contract, back pay is gone.

Correct babboo and it would've had to be re-negotiated when talks resume. Insurance would've been gone for current employees also. Thankfully it never came to that.

No vote doesn't eliminate back pay or insurance. Cancelled extension and an impass does.

One thing that influences 705`s vote is that their most favored nations clause only covers Teamcare and not the rest of their contract. That means whatever 710 gets will not be automatic for them. They will have to vote it down and re-negotiate to get what they got.

Well if your a part timer getting insurance for you and your family be grateful.

Grateful? For what? UPS holding up their end of the bargain? That's the deal they made. I work my @$$ of for a year for just about minimum wage, and I am then entitled to benefits. I'm not grateful... I've earned it, and I intend to vote in my best interest. UPS is not some magnanimous altruistic entity that wants what's best for it's employees... they are corporate profiteers who will greedily pocket any penny they can get their grubby little fingers on. You, the employee, are no longer a benefit to the company... You are a liability and an expense... the one thing that stands between them and higher profits. If UPS could replace us all with 9 year old indonesian slaves tomorrow, they'd do it in a heartbeat, without a second thought to you or me.

Conversely, if the Teamsters could find a way to line their pockets off of that arrangement, Hoffa Jr would gladly let it happen.
