Cowboy Fire Sparked by Illegal Immigrants: Cal Fire

A brush fire that has burned at least 822 acres was started by two illegal immigrants who were in distress, according to Cal Fire officials.
“They called C4, which is Mexico’s emergency dispatch system and advised them that they had been lost for two days, were stranded, dehydrated, and were going to light a signal fire to attempt to get some help,” said Cal Fire spokesperson Roxanne Provaznik.

Rise in public benefits to children of illegal immigrants in L.A. County has supervisor ‘very concerned’

Welfare payments to children of illegal immigrants in Los Angeles County increased in July to $52 million, prompting renewed calls from one county supervisor to rein in public benefits to such families.
The payments, made to illegal immigrants for their U.S. citizen children, included $30 million in food stamps and $22 million from the CalWORKS welfare program, according to Los Angeles County figures released Friday by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

Cartoon of Mexican flag draws criticism

Mexico City, Mexico (CNN) — An American’s cartoon showing the eagle in the Mexican flag dead in a pool of blood is drawing criticism.
The sketch created by political cartoonist Daryl Cagle depicts the green, white, and red Mexican flag with a bullet-riddled eagle sprawled in the center of the emblem. Mexico’s coat of arms includes the eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, devouring a snake.
Cagle says he created the cartoon to depict the violence rampant in parts of Mexico.
“Editorial cartoonists look for readily recognizable metaphors and that’s an obvious one for Mexico,” says Cagle.
More than 28,000 people have died in Mexico since President Felipe Calderón declared war on drug cartels after taking office in December 2006.
But the cartoon has offended many Mexicans who feel their national symbol is off limits, especially to foreign cartoonists.

Attorney General Eric Holder filed suit against the Maricopa County Sheriff’s office, run by the flamboyant Joe Arpaio, as part of an extended investigation into alleged civil rights violations there.The Justice Department’s investigation of Arpaio could end badly for Holder. When the Department first informed Arpaio that a probe was under way, back in March 2009, it sent a letter saying the investigation would focus on “alleged patterns or practices of discriminatory police practices and unconstitutional searches and seizures.” But now we learn that just six months before that, in September 2008, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, known as ICE, did its own investigation of Arpaio’s office — and gave it a clean bill of health. Arpaio’s lawyers recently got a copy of the ICE report through the Freedom of Information Act.

Well, yea it is a cut and paste (not much different than the one on youtube about GWB). I don't think they were trying make it look otherwise or claiming that this was all one constant babble. I watched part of that interview, his stammering was pretty bad, but not as bad as this clip shows. It's an unfortunate fact that both sides of the isle have pundits that will manipulate photos and videos and soundbites to get "their" ideas across.
Another example of this is the Daily show style used in the clip Cheryl posted in #2177.

Mexican officials: Gunmen behind massacre of 72 have been killed

(CNN) — Six of the suspected gunmen responsible for the killings of 72 migrants in Mexico have been identified, Mexican authorities said Monday, the state-run Notimex news agency reported.
However, all of the suspects are dead, said Alejandro Poire, the spokesman for Mexico’s president on security issues.
Three were killed in a confrontation with the Mexican navy after the bodies were discovered, and three others were found dead inside a vehicle on the side of a highway, Poire said

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – A federal document that immigrants use to prove they are legal U.S. residents is not longer good enough to get a Virginia driver’s license.
Gov. Bob McDonnell ordered the Department of Motor Vehicles to no longer consider Employment Authorization Documents evidence that a person is in the country legally. About 20 other federal documents will still be accepted.
The governor acted after a 23-year-old Bolivian national with drunken driving convictions in 2007 and 2008 was involved in a crash that killed a nun and injured two others in her order in Prince William County. Police say Carlos Martinelly Montano was drunk at the time.
Montano had used the form to get a Virginia license even though he faced deportation proceedings, authorities say.
