Arizona's anti-imigration law...

If Harry feels his "amnesty bill" is sooooo good, why can't it stand alone ???? No, he wants to sneak it in. He's a shifty rat.

Actually what Harry is presenting isn't all bad. There are a couple of points I would not be opposed to. I would make a few changes, noted in brown letters below.

The act would allow young people who attend college ( on their own dime, not tax payer money)or join the military to become legal U.S. residents(but NOT citizens, to vote they must continue with the naturalization process). The young people must have come to the country when they were under 16 (10 )years of age and have been in the country five years (10). Those who join the military must serve at least two (four)years and complete two years of college.
I would also require them to have no other infractions of the laws of the USA and whatever state they are in, including juvenile, not counting the illegal immigration.

other than that, no way would I be satisfied with the change.

I've never liked the idea of making military service a prerequisite for citizenship. In fact I really dislike that idea. The only people who should be in the military are people who want to be in the military, not people who are just using it as a path to something else. jmho.
My only requirement for citizenship is that people be willing to work and support themselves honestly.

Being a student of American history and having spent some thought as to what it means to be a citizen of the USA, I will have to add a few more.

Fundamental belief in the rights and responsibilities of the individual.

Belief in working hard to achieve one's goals of wealth.

Assimilation into American Society.

Until troops were being sent to Iraq, most ...a lot of the people in the military were only there for the educational benefits. After that most were enlisting to become soldiers not students.

I have no problem with illegal immigrants having to volunteer for military duty, to get a short cut to citizenship. It beats having to go back where they came from.
I would say that is a step forward in the right direction to becoming an American.

Trp, I would add that 15% unemployment in some of our larger cities (Detroit) has led many who never thought of joining the military to sign up, if for nothing more than a steady paycheck.

I'm sure that is probably true too.
Detroit is train wreck, one reason for the high unemployment rate there is do to businesses moving out because of the very high crime rate. There is a vicious circle going on in that city(I'm sure many others as well).

Harry Reid is trying to squeeze this act through before the November elections....

About the DREAM Act
Every time the pro-Amnesty forces fail at pushing through a total mass Amnesty, they've fallen back to some version of an Amnesty for illegal alien youths. It goes by the attractive name of the "DREAM Act."

This title is very misleading. More than 2 MILLION illegal aliens would qualify. What they would receive is a path to full citizenship, welfare benefits, in-state tuition, and the right to sponsor large numbers of their family members for citizenship.

Who are these "youth?"In the Senate DREAM bill, illegal aliens up through age 35 qualify! In the House bill there is no age limit at all.

These "young" illegal aliens would only need to claim (not prove) that they meet the criteria and meet at least the minimum of taking a a one-year vocational program to get on the path to citizenship. And there is NO REQUIREMENT that the person actually COMPLETES their education!

Reid is a fool. Trying to tack this on to the Defense Bill.
Reid may have another agenda as well. The add on is bound to draw opposition from the right. By adding the "dream bill" if the defense bill is defeated they left will say that the failure of the conservatives to support defense. Not that tactic hasn't been used before.

people may have fallen for that stuff before, but they are so much better informed now.......We're already talking about the "add-on" to this defense bill.

Hypocritical Mexico Builds Its Own Wall to Keep Out ILLEGALS from Guatemala

Mexico builds wall on it’s own southern border
Guatemala City – Travelling without documents to the United States from Latin America can turn into an odyssey, in which migrants have to elude common criminals and drug traffickers along the way, not to mention the laws on migration. But now another obstacle is emerging: a wall between Guatemala and Mexico.
According to the head of customs for Mexico’s tax administration, Raúl Díaz, in order to stop boats carrying contraband, the southern Mexican state of Chiapas is building a wall along the border river Suchiate, similar to the one the United States is building along its southern border with Mexico.
Global scale migration said to be a national security issue
So Mexico is building it’s own wall and it’s own Senate agrees that migration is a threat to a nations security due to lack of security controls. The civil war between narco-cartels and the Mexican government forces rage just a few miles south of the US border and who the victor is is still unclear considering some reports that entire cities and towns have no police force or civil governments left in control. Police forces are resigning en masse. Mayors are being beheaded. The judiciary is hiding behind their benches, journalists are being killed. Are any of the pillars of the Federal Republic of Mexico left?

MAY HAVE another agenda??? He is trying to get out the Hispanic vote, knowing they will vote for democrats. This is another reason why we need to get rid of these politicians. I agree with every comment why we should do this, but this bill will be another reason why people will do anything they can to get here illegally.

SECURE THE BORDER FIRST!

The DREAM Act sponsors have long fought to sabotage a clearly worded provision in the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) that states: “Notwithstanding any other provision of law, an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State (or a political subdivision) for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit (in no less an amount, duration, and scope) without regard to whether the citizen or national is such a resident.”

Mexican newspaper to cartels: ‘We do not want more deaths’
By Nick Valencia
(CNN) —
On the same day friends and family buried slain photographer Luis Carlos Santiago Orozco, the newspaper he worked for, El Diario, in an unprecedented move published an open letter to the drug cartels operating in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
No newspaper in Juarez has ever published an editorial directly addressed to the cartels that are battling for the trafficking corridor in the city. The letter, written by the editorial staff of the newspaper and published, pleaded with the drug gangs to end violence against journalists.
You are, at present, the de facto authorities in this city,” the newspaper’s letter to the cartels said, “because the legal institutions have not been able to keep our colleagues from dying.
