What's going to kill the O&G industry is if and when people go to electric cars and if and electric cars become autonomous, and if and when people stop buying their own cars and just sort of ride share. Sure Biden want's to cut down on emissions, sure he wants to go into the paris climate accord which I imagine wont be that great for my industry, but none of those things even matters if people keep buying gas powered cars, when that stops is when this industry is done.

He's going to crimp the economy by making gas much more expensive. Do you think a poor family can afford that? And most electricity is generated by burning coal and natural gas. And there's not enough infrastructure right now to meet the demand if all or most cars are electric. Don't worry, kill enough jobs and make gas unaffordable and people will have to ride share.

US will need to buy oil from Russia and Venezuela. But I guess that is more important than being energy independent. Not to mention Biden's freeze on new drilling.

No, why are you all pretending? Biden was just VP 4 years ago. The economy was doing well, the unemployment rate was 4.7% when they left. During trump first 3 years it dropped to 3.5% and now its back up to 7% or something and yall want to pretend that trump gets all the credit but none of the blame. It is fantasyland bs.
Was gasoline much more expensive when Biden was VP? No it wasn't. Yeah the paris climate thing goes hard after coal fired plants. Not natural gas plants though. the Obama administration loved the gas boom. I didn't say electric cars would dominate anytime soon, although who knows.

You're a revisionist. Gas was above $3 a gallon, way above for most of Obama's tenure. The economy was stagnant at best.

Actually the current layoff is 1000 jobs .With the pipeline being built there was a potential for exponentially more. The ramifications are Biden's presidency was to sure up our relations with foreign countries so now Canada is pissed off at us his second day in office , losing our energy independence or depending on countries in not so favorable locations for our oil. Lastly it's effect at the gas pump. Wait until he attacks fracking !
never seen a president wack so many jobs so quickly , and do so intentionally

Biden is a lot more likely to bow to Republicans and moderates than “hard leftists”, that’s kinda the thing he ran on.
You don’t even know what an authoritarian statist is.
You think Bernie is some left wing freedom loving moderate. I really just want to personally insult you for being such a dumb :censored2: but I can’t since it’s against the rules.

Lol, hey I work in the O&G industry, for 16 years now, and I remember Keystone pipeline from when Obama was Potus, the O&G industry experienced a legit boom under Obama. and denying Keystone didn't stop that boom. we actually bring in Canadian crude, it is poorer quality Crude at least the crude we get, but the Keystone pipeline was not going to employ that many workers permanently, had barely gotten off the ground even after 4 years of trump, they have built 1.2 miles, all the job projections were in the future, never really materialized, and most of the jobs would have been very temporary.
Excellent point. Nobody knows better than you just how dirty and expensive to clean up Canadian tar sand oil is. As a refinery worker it's my hope that you will be able to make it to retirement before the transition to renewables and AV's is complete.
It's like coal fired power plants. When a license expires it's not often renewed. The reason is simple. They're simply too damn expensive to operate. In a few years we've gone from 540 coal plants down to the low 200's and they'll be gone in a few years. They and their 300 man workforce needed to run them are being replaced with gas units that are quick and easy to setup and run and employ only a couple of dozen people at the most. In the neighboring county a company is preparing to setup a dual gas turbine power plant in an long abandoned railroad locomotive shop and employ 20. And in my county there are 3 permits pending for 3 new power plants...all 3 are solar.

As more states deregulate their their electric utility industries and rates the old coal and nukes will continue to go away.

How do we lose our energy independence transporting Canadian oil? It's not our oil. If we use it we have to buy it.
