Build That Wall!!

First-ever private border wall built in New Mexico

A private group announced Monday that it has constructed a half-mile wall along a section of the U.S.-Mexico border in New Mexico, in what it said was a first in the border debate.

The 18-foot steel bollard wall is similar to the designs used by the Border Patrol, sealing off a part of the border that had been a striking gap in existing fencing, according to We Build the Wall, the group behind the new section.
2,640 feet down, and only 10,314,480 feet left to go.

Should be done and sealed up tight by the time my unborn children's grandkids are ready to retire.

Not the first ever tunnel project built in New Mexico was announced today by a private Drug cartel. The 18-foot tunnel is similar to the ones used by other Cartels all across the region. The new tunnel has effectively negated the new stupid wall built by some dumb private American citizens.

In other news ladders sales on the Mexican side of the New Mexico border have recently gone up.

Can you give us the tldr/tldc version?

Just a quick summary for those of us who aren't up on our scriptures?

My Romans game just isn't as tight as it used to be.
Romans 13:1 --"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which is from God. The authorities that exist have been appointed by God."

God tells us to be subject to the higher powers. He has ordained them for our good. For us to resist these powers is to resist the ordinances of God.
There are certain limits, of course, to which we are responsible to civil authority.-- When rulers order us to do what God forbids, our allegiance to God must be supreme. Peter and John faced this problem.

Before His ascension into heaven, Jesus commanded the disciples to preach the gospel to all men. The rulers didn't like it that the disciples were teaching the people that Jesus was the Son of God and the Savior of the world-- so they ordered them to quit.
At this point God's authority and man's came into conflict. Peter's reply was, "We ought to obey God rather than men" --Acts 5:29.

In 1956 Pres. Eisenhower started his new Interstate Highway system. It was declared finished in 1992 (36 years). It was a total of 41,000 miles of 4 lane highways crisscrossing the USA both north to south and east to west. If that can be done in only 36 years a measly wall 18-20 feet high can easily be built a couple of thousand miles in less than 4 or 5 years. Piece of cake--BUILD THAT WALL

See, there's a big difference here. In that instance, everyone actually wanted the highway system, and it served a clear and necessary purpose. So we had the full support of the congress, and thus the US taxpayers behind it.

The wall? Not so much.

But about 36 years for the wall, if it ever comes, sounds just about right in the ballpark.

His Highway system met LOTS of resistance in populated areas. Many neighborhoods needed to be leveled to make way for a 4 lane.

Thanks for the history lesson, grandpa.

Can you make me that hot chocolate now?

It's almost time for The Cosby show to start.

In all seriousness, of course there's going to be a small minority of dissent for any huge infrastructure program, especially one where the government makes around 750,000 eminent domain claims, like the interstate highway system.

But for the most part, people could see that the benefits would be clear and that it would usher us into the modern age of travel and interstate commerce - the wall is like a step back, toward medieval times when civilizations were walled off against raiding conquerors, and it's not at all clear that this program will accomplish it's stated goal of stemming the tide of illegal immigration.

Most illegal immigrants and drugs come through the legal points of entry and use our beloved interstate system to fan out across the country. Another chunk of the drugs and human trafficking occurs through the use of super tunnels, and the wall stops neither of these methods of entry.

If it's as easy as coming on 'vacation' to the US and just never leaving, and it basically is, then what purpose does this wall really serve?

Please, what will it take for you 'build that wall' people to understand this? Help us help you.

Build a wall is easy to understand. Discussing the nuance of the myriad failings of our current immigration policy is hard. Don’t overthink it, Trump supporters are stupid so the easy plan is what sells.

I honestly just find it so hard to believe that grown adults with successful careers, who are obviously otherwise making fairly intelligent decisions in their lives could decide to believe that building a 1950 mile wall will somehow stop illegal immigration and illegal drugs from entering our country because a :censored2: con man told them so.

The statistics and facts are out there and plain to see - the wall will basically change next to NOTHING.

It’s all part of the grift. Privatizing pays better than war, and war pays pretty damn well.

I don't think anyone has said building a wall will "stop" it but it certainly would slow it down and give the authorities a chance to narrow down points of entry. What is your solution to the drug problem? Stand at the border with a stop sign out in the middle of nowhere?

Focus on the demand. We are a nation of addicts and no wall including prisons is going to stop the flow as long as there is a demand.
