Hmm ., didn't a similar scenario occur resulting in the Civil War? Keep California dreaming about secession.

The Civil War was different. It wasn't clear whether or not states had the right to secede. They probably did have a legal right but not the power to get away with it.

That war pretty much settled any question as to whether states have that right - a big no.

I doubt any shots would ever be fired. The economic threats of companies leaving and trade embargoes from outside would kill the movement before it built up any real chance of success. And that's too bad really because it's hard to see the US where the desires of California, Texas, New York, and Nebraska are all served sufficiently by the US Federal government.

Maybe. Trump seems incapable of divorcing himself from his business holdings.

We'll see.

I am not naive enough to think that he will completely divest himself of any and all "Trump Inc." dealings while in office; in fact, I fully expect him to enact legislation favorable to his own business interests.

Which could open him to conspiracy and racketeering charges.

Question 1) Every state receives Federal Funds but not all states receive the amount of funds back that they sent to Washington in the first place. Read at the link down the page in the OP under the heading "THE CASE FOR INDEPENDENCE IN 9 SIMPLE POINTS"

Question 2) How much goes the California economy grow when the money sent to Washington now stays home in California? This cost may offset.

Question 3) That depends purely on economic considerations and the burden is on California in that case.

"The could use Mexican Ports for cheaper"

If true, why are they not using them now?

you're assuming no increase in tax's? Will California choose to have and fund a military as well as Their own federal government , border patrol. Federal executive branch's , law enforcement etc.

Why would they have to join NATO ?
They are not located anywhere near the North Atlantic .

Going to Hawaii could be a nightmare if one had to first fly to Calif.
Why NATO? Convenience. Why reinvent a defense agreement? And in the age of cyber warfare, all countries are everywhere.
