i dont think jesus wouldve used nukes based on what i knwo

what makes you think thats acceptable as a christian to support nukes?
I already answered that. I like having it as a form as a deterrent from others. Would it be nice if everyone agreed to disarm them? Sure, but good luck getting EVERYONE to do it. If you can prove to me that China, Russia, Iran, N Korea will comply then I’ll be willing to join ya

i didnt see you answer that. i understand you said it was a deterent and that we had enough nukes to turn the world into hell a few times over

but what i didnt see was how jesus would support nukes....i highly doubt it.

disarming is not going to happen by everyone sitting on their asses.

It won’t happen at all unless you have every single country agree. Like I said, you give me proof that everyone is on board and I’ll join ya

If nukes deter major wars then I think they're a good thing. What gets me is the efforts to prevent the expansion of nuclear power. You want to save the climate but don't want to use the one very reliable source of power that's the only viable way to greatly reduce carbon emissions. All because of Hiroshima.

treaties work! we know that.
oh really? So what happens when one side decides to not follow it? And I don't trust that China and Russia would actually get rid of their nukes. Do you? Treaties have been broken since treaties have been around, and this isn't just some kinda trade deal or something. If one side doesn't follow through, they're at the mercy now of the the others

you should read noam chomsky he is a great spiritual atheist unlike @Box Ox

i think he usually just talks about countries walking away from the treaties

I'm not sure what Chomsky would show me that would make me trust Russia and China. All you need to do is look at history and see the treaties made and broken, and the effects it can have on the side that loses in the end. Nukes kinda have a high price to pay if you get shafted in the agreement.

again,,,,,,, all fine and dandy but not if everyone doesn't play fair. You want us to destroy ours and "maybe" China and Russia will?

i dont think you understand how it works because you havent listened to noam chomsky for example or others like glenn greenwald who will properly explain it

and anyways jesus doesnt support nuclear weapons so i dont know how you figure you can? in your case thats really what it comes down to

wrong. Just because you proclaim that's all it comes down to doesn't make it true. I don't like what the result of a nuclear war can be, but I'm also not against holding them as a deterrent to other countries. Maybe that's hypocritical to you but I stand by my point. Like I said, I'd love to see them gone, but until you find a way for everyone to agree to it then the situation is what it is. You're very naive if you think if we dispose of ours first then the world will follow.
