you cant have bombs either as a christian right? how can you square thou shall not kill with having bombs or nukes? How many have been "murdered" by nukes? Apparently you have no problem with conventional bombs.

Or guns or knives or poison or... They aren't intrinsically evil. Only the intent of the user is evil if they are used to attack others. And because we have evil leaders like Putin with a lot of nukes we must have them too as a deterrent.you cant have bombs either as a christian right? how can you square thou shall not kill with having bombs or nukes?

It's a tough thing to consider. New Testament teachings does not say it's ok to murder. The Old Testament has many points of killing that was justified with God. David killed Goliath, Joshua conquering the Canaanites. Exodus 22.2 states that "if a thief is found breaking in, and he is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt for his bloodshed".how can we have nukes and at the same time say thou shalt not kill?
i think it just comes down to common sense since the bible was written by a variety of authors who werent godlike with contradicting statements. It's a tough thing to consider. Yes Integrity, throw out what you don't agree with.i think it just comes down to common sense since the bible was written by a variety of authors who werent godlike with contradicting statements.
No one will be God like. Did you ever notice that God used very flawed people to be His chosen leaders in the bible. Moses killed a man. David had a man killed and took his wife. Paul.... well holy moly look how flawed he was, yet all were chosen to preach in His name.i think it just comes down to common sense since the bible was written by a variety of authors who werent godlike with contradicting statements.
so the bible has contradicting viewsNo one will be God like. Did you ever notice that God used very flawed people to be His chosen leaders in the bible. Moses killed a man. so being a christian is a guessing gameYes Integrity, throw out what you don't agree with.
You have to look at what is being taught in the context of what the story is telling. Just because Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John don't say the exact same words doesn't mean their stories contradict one another. If you don't find the answer in one part of the bible you check somewhere else. You don't just guess. You pray on the matter and ask Christ to guide your heart to do the right thing.so the bible has contradicting views
so how do you know what to do? just guess?
No..... nor is it a secular "common sense" argumentso being a christian is a guessing game
sounds like a guess. You have to look at what is being taught in the context of what the story is telling. To you it would. Not to me......sounds like a guess.
does it say anything consistent about ripping people off aka maximizing profits? To you it would. Not to me......
if christianity doesnt definitely say anything about killing people or not, then i would look elsewhere for advice on that. you can still read the book but educate yourself further. To you it would. Not to me......
You haven't demonstrated you are familiar with what being a Christian is. Of course we want peace. We want to live in peace. But others don't. Even some who claim to be Christian. So we're vigilant. Might not matter to you but a lot of people want to protect their children from harm. Not only at the local level but nationally and internationally.so being a christian is a guessing game
and you will search until you find what you want to hear. I put my faith in the bible teaching. If something is confusing then sure, go and see what others say about it. Heck it's one of the reasons I am on this forum, just look at the difference of opinion on the religion thread. Whether I agree or not with what gets posted, each member has a view that makes me go and search for answers. They all get me thinking and look to further my knowledge. If I feel the purpose of others is of genuine objectivity in faith then it means more to but I will look up anything I feel is productiveif christianity doesnt definitely say anything about killing people or not, then i would look elsewhere for advice on that. you can still read the book but educate yourself further.
