Indeed. He did a great job confronting another of what he called a "hoax", including the current one that in his superior intelligence was going to go away in a matter of days.
This is a guy who validates his performance entirely on the basis of numbers. However in his case he has only one number remaining that could give him a second term. The DJIA. That's is purely the reason why he tried to downplay the virus and was slow to respond .
