People who refuse to buy health insurance need to take personal responsibility for that decision.

Individual insurance plans that cost hundreds of dollars a month feature very high deductibles in the thousands of dollars that can themselves be financially ruinous.

I don't mind disagreeing with people until something is done about it. Like Winston Churchill famously said, "You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing after they have tried everything else."

I don't necessarily expect US healthcare to meaningfully reform in my lifetime. But it will eventually.

Then they are covered under Medicaid.

Often not the case in red states that have never expanded Medicaid.

Yep, often the case. But I wouldn't trade the overarching system we live under in the US for the one Europeans live under as dictated by Brussels.
id take the european system over yours, but theirs has major problems too like what you just said.

nader calls the US system a 2 party dictatorship. i agree, it doesnt matter who you voted for, obama, bush, reagan, clinton, goldman sachs wins.

Medicaid covers what, 70 million people? That's poor people who actually can't afford it and as the greatest country on earth we help them. As for the others....

People want things handed to them for nothing. You and I both know there are a lot of people saying they can't afford health insurance who could if they weren't financially irresponsible.

Just different perspectives. Neither is always wrong. I couldn't imagine many Canadians would listen to a review of the main points of each system and prefer the US over the European.

It's cool. I'd similarly :censored2: up trying to discuss all things Canadian even if I regularly tuned in to CBC. Just not enough to engage in meaningful conversations about the country's politics and lifestyles.
