I think you're really jumping to conclusions by assuming this guy was on some sort of jihad and that this was a religiously motivated attack. It's possible that the investigation may reach that conclusion, but right now it just doesn't look that way. From what's been reported he seems like an emotionally unstable guy who lost it, which actually happens all too frequently regardless of religious beliefs. His religious beliefs may have been a contributing factor in some way, but keep in mind that there are plenty of muslim americans serving their country honorably in the armed forces.

This officer was about to be deployed, he has tried for months to get out of the service and was resisting being deployed to the middle east.
He was an officer in the Miltary. You do what your told to do. He kept re-enlisting every 4 years...
After months and months of trying, he just snapped.
How convenient.
There are many US soldiers who are facing this exact same situation all over this country. Fortunately, they dont snap and kill there comrades.
Thats right they dont "just snap" and do what they are told because they are in the military where you do what your told or you get out after your enlistment is up.
Instead, they are killing themselves.
Better than killing your coworkers or fellow american soldiers.

This was a simple case of a muslim soldier not wanting to go overseas into a middle eastern country and be a part of a war he didnt believe in.
Its also that simple to refuse to go and get court marsheled and get booted out with a dishonorble discharge instead of yelling god is great and killing your fellow soldiers.
He was strong enough in his faith to not want to be a part of an occupying force dominating a muslim country and he just snapped.

There are hundreds of muslims in the service, they are not "moles" but in fact recruited by the military for service in the middle east. Translators and having people on the battlefield who can connect with the muslims in battle is an important part of a war strategy.
I think you need to research that more closely. Many are "christians" who converted from Islam because a true muslim cant kill other muslims and that is why the POS in fort hood as you say "snapped" and yelled Alah.

Ironic isn't it? We are going to spend tons of taxpayer dollars to bring this guy's health up to par so he can go to trial, get convicted, and be put to death. It is a right he is afforded despite the glaring evidence of his guilt. Texas is the state known for putting criminals like him to death, faster than most states, but maybe the UCMJ will be quicker still. The quicker he can get convicted and sent up to be with his 72 virgins the better.

I agree it's ridiculous, but all religions look weird to people who don't practice them. BTW, I'm pretty sure they just get tended to by those virgins, like brought grapes and such, they don't actually get to "violate" them. I could be wrong though, islam is definitely not my bag.

Horrible and tragic as this all is, from a political strategy POV and specifically it's timing, it might have been a stroke of luck. Between Ft. Hood and the shooting yesterday in Orlando, it sure has taken the attention of the people away from Washington this weekend and the political goings on with healthcare and all the backroom deals this will entail.
Also as it's being decided to move forward or not in Afghanistan, how perfect for the President to have a reminder of how dangerous these muslim types are and even for Sec. of State Clinton as she also tries to steer public policy on the foreign agenda side in relation to muslim extremism, especially the Iranian threat.
I'm sure the old Clinton machine (Rahm et al) now working for President Obama see this all as manna from heaven, and a familar ring to it?
