I wonder if UPS will follow this business model when they introduce the two-tiered wage system in 2013.

UPS has had a two-tier wage system in place since the 80's; part-timers when I started began at $2 less than the top rate at that time and it only took a year to jump up to top rate. Now it's stuck at $8.50 and a starting employee at McDonalds makes more.

I am talking about drivers.

#1 there is already a multi-tier wage system for drivers. Between progression, air drivers, seasonal drivers, temporary drivers, etc etc
#2 there will only be a two-tier wage system for top rate, FT drivers if the union votes for it. UPS cannot just "make" two top rates without it being negotiated.

No, but they can introduce it, and I am certain that they will. And I think that they will use something similar to the incentives used by GM to get UAW to accept the new contract to get the Teamsters to accept the two-tier wage system for top rate, FT drivers.

Then I can expect a $5,000 signing bonus and a $4,000 profit sharing check, too ?

Yeah, if you opt out of getting any raises for the next 4 years.

The 4 year deal likely will include sweeter profit-sharing checks instead of raises for most of GM's 48,500 union workers in the U.S. Also likely is a raise for entry-level workers who make $14 to $16 per hour, about half the pay of a longtime auto worker. It also will include creative ways to cut GM's labour costs, which are still higher than those at nonunion U.S. plants owned by foreign competitors.

That's only Americans though. GM is expanding overseas and are number 1 sellers now worldwide.
Nothing to worry about, unless it's only American jobs people want. ;)[/QUOTE

I'm only concerned with Americans.......................
My next car/truck will be a Ford. I have never set foot on a Ford lot before!

Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep Models Recalled
(Wall Street Journal) - Chrysler was recalling certain 2012 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles with the company's 3.6-liter V6 engine in the US on Saturday because of manufacturing problems that could lead to engine failures.
In a document filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the carmaker said the recall included Chrysler 200 and Town and Country models, Dodge Charger, Durango, Grand Caravan and Journey models, and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles built from Aug. 31 through Sept. 13.
A total of 657 vehicles were potentially affected, the company said.
Chrysler said that connecting rods in the vehicles' engines could fail because of debris inside the engine block. Such a failure could cause the engine to seize, increasing the risk of a crash.
Under the recall, expected to begin this month, Chrysler will replace the engines on all affected vehicles free of charge.

Most of the components on the new ford trucks are made OUT OF THE USA. And, to your point about buying a ford because they didnt get a bailout from the goverment? Get serious. FORD was the only company that got BAILED OUT by the BANKING INDUSTRY in the form of reconstruction loans.

FORD didnt make it on their own like your friends on FOXED SPEWS has you believing. They had to put up ASSETS against HUGE loans to stay in business. They are paying a higher interest to the banks than GM is paying the goverment.

Who was the smarter borrower?

Peace.

I hope she buys a nice new truck, she has enough money to pay for gas for it.
And herman cain with his new 9% National Sales tax, will put gas prices at over $4.00 even with lower oil prices, with higher oil prices, count on over $5 a gallon, if NST gets thru.
