Do you really think they had extensive knowledge of disease and how it spread in the 1600's? It's a well documented fact that early settlers came upon whole villages of dead natives, or deserted villages altogether. They took it as a sign from God that he was giving them the land. Most Native Americans after first contact died from disease they had no natural immunity to.

I'm aware of that incident concerning smallpox but that was in 1762. What I was referring to was the near mass extinction of Native Americans brought on by early white settlements in the 1600's if not earlier.
