I've worn high top boots every winter at work for years....never got blisters because I broke them in at home first.Get a low cut shoe with a steel or a (preferably) crush rated composite toe that doesn't rub against your ankles. I can't stress this enough. Don't wear higher top boots in a sort. Get the new shoes and patch your ankles with wrap or some sort of adhesive moleskin. Might be an expensive emergency purchase but you'll be glad you did it.
