When I get help I give them my gravy and if they don't know the area, I'll set it upfor them.If they are helping it makes no sense to screw them.

Plus if someone screws you you won't help them again. They make my list and it's not good for them.

It depends who it is, if mgnt forced me, and if my family members are waiting on me for a special occasion after work.

Just a little venting here.... After busting off 165 plus 20 pickups today, to try and make it to my sons BB game (he is a senior), was forced to go help another driver who only had 26 resi stops in town at 17:20. I was fine with that, believe me I know you can't make it to every sporting event, but I meet the guy and he gives me 17 of the 26 stops then beats me in. I told the on car sup. that was still there when I got in that I will no longer go to help this particular driver. He said " I don't know why you helped anyway as he only had 26 in town stops left anyway. What a bunch of crap. Oh well the boys got their butts kicked again anyway...

This is about the only reason I'll ever refuse to help anyone. When you consistently give me more than you keep. You're S.O.L. as far as I'm concerned.

Did they ask for you to help or to take over his route? It sounds like you were asked to do the later. We definitely need people like you willing to step up across the organization, unless the other driver was brand new I can't understand how taking 17 out of 26 stops makes any sense. Also, if the message was sent before 1500 from the other driver, I question if they had not given up long before the end of the day.

Lol, 9 stops were in one neighborhood farther away that I had never been in, the other 17 I was at least a little familiar with so I took the latter.

They told another driver need help later in the day and you still busted your route out to go help them.. If you have to go help some other driver why it feels a little better when it is on OT....

By 3 I only had 10 stops left and 10 pickups kind of hard to slow down at that point.

He was busting out his route to go watch his son play basketball.

He said he was notified early in the day that he was going to have to go help someone. He should have stop busting it out he knew he wasn't going to make the game. We get dispatched over 8 hours a day my center each route is dispatched at 9.1 hours of work. So why would you bust out your route to go help someone and not be getting OT doing so knowing that your not going to make the game you wanted to go watch for what you started the day busting out your route.[/quote]

I made the choice, trust me, at that point I was already going to miss the better part of the basketball game. Little extra cash never hurts. Just pisses me off that I had to help someone who didn't really need it.

This happened to me twice during this past Peak. I was "asked" to go help a seasonal driver who was in way over his head. When I got to the meet point he tried to give me work that I was unfamiliar with. I asked him what he had left and took 40 residential stops in an area I was very familiar with.

Never take more than 1/3rd of stops off the driver. If he's a repeat problem that ratio goes down even more.

I usually get the message " You must help John Smith, take 10-15 stops. No exceptions!"
The thing I have found is by the time you actually meet the driver, transfer pgks, talk, etc... it hardly saves them any time

That's exactly why you don't go too fast, cause you know their watching from center who gets done early to get that driver to help out other people. If you get done super early and have no pickups left turn off your phone and leave diad in the back. Or if they send you message tell them im a take my lunch then help or ill help them but im taking my lunch when I get in and will not be making 9.5 lol
