The New York State legislature voted Thursday to ban anyone under the age of 21 from buying or even possessing a semi-automatic rifle, and would require anyone buying a rifle to get a license.

After another one in 1996 they banned hand guns

Nothing much since then in 25 years.

at the same our murder rate despite the argument otherwise is in line with european countries where guns are much harder to get. So while we have much more dramatic single events our rate overall is no worse.
