Cedar looks nice for a couple of years. Then its a losing battle trying to maintain it.If the whole thing is cedar I feel sorry for him. Keeping it looking nice is next to impossible. I told my neighbor the next time he saw me working on my river front cedar deck it would be with a chainsaw cutting it down. I got tired of having to re-stain it every 2 or 3 years. My front of the house deck is plastic. Not as good looking as new cedar but I haven't had to touch it in 16 years.
