What taxes does the USPS receive from US taxpayers?

I'll answer for him since he probably won't admit that he is wrong.

NONE.

The USPS is entirely self funded.

That doesn't mean that they aren't screwing people. Like subsidizing their package delivery with revenue from their monopolized first class mail, artificially increasing the cost of first class mail.

One of the reasons why Surepost was cancelled. First class mail has been decreasing tremendously over the years. This means less revenue to subsidize their package delivery.

They may have to actually charge what they need to so they don't lose money to deliver packages now. But they will then lose most of their customers.

It receives federal funding that comes from taxpayers.

Ummmm. NO.

The Postal Service receives no direct taxpayer funds. It relies on revenues from stamps and other service fees.

No, the Postal Service is generally self-funded. This means that no tax dollars are used to keep the lights on at its many facilities across the country. The Postal Service, instead, relies on the revenue it generates from the sale of stamps, products, and services to fund its operations.

That is not true. They do not receive tax revenues to support their operations, which are paid for entirely through the sale of postal products and services. The issue is that mail volumes have been dropping throughout the years, so they do not have enough revenue coming in to support their bloated and outdated operations. No one in Congress is willing to take on the issue and God forbid someone suggest they reduce the number of days they deliver mail or consider cutting the fat from their operations.

Post Office may not receive tax money directly but they do avoid paying taxes and fees other companies have to pay.

Since this thread is no longer exactly about SurePost volume I’ll take this opportunity to chime in and say…….the USPS is long past due for privatization or elimination. I prefer the latter.

We don’t need them. Why is the government delivering retail items and competing with the private sector to do so?

The original purpose of the postal service was for communication between England and the colonies. Well, that’s irrelevant now. Both politically and technologically.

Junk mail? Who wants it?

Yes, they deliver government related mail/packages but it’s a tiny fraction of what the handle. And it could all be handled by the private sector.

I say disband the whole thing. It’s nothing more than a prime example of a relic government entity thats staying on life support to stay relevant. The Constitution doesn’t say there MUST be a postal service. Only gives Congress the POWER to create/disband one.
