I don't think he is a real driver as he said he worked his regular preload sort. More likely some kind of temp driver. UPS can and will use and abuse you.

Work the preload, and bring your drivers clothes with you. If they need you to drive you can after your preload shift. Depending on the center manager they'll give you work 12,13, to 13.99 hours. If you do drive after preload the best part about that is your preload shift will be paid at your full time rate.

Bottom line is you're guaranteed either 6 or 8 hours if you report but aren't worked, depending on where you are. They don't have to work you at all though, so being a TCD you have to decide if getting that guarantee is worth the fallout.
