For starters he asked you to answer a loaded question.
Ya we didn't have problems with the region but we didn't really have problems with anyone else either. World wars changed the landscape globally and we got dragged into it and never got out.
Also he's asking you about a period of time where European countries largely were still in control of the region from the colonialism era. When autonomy was handed over to Muslims problems followed. Not surprising.
Lazy to blame it all on Jews. You could say the establishment of a modern Israel state didn't help and you wouldn't be wrong but it's a lot more nuanced than that.

Stratetigic military advantage. We have much better eyes on the region with a rock solid friend that provides us extra eyes and latitude to act as we wish. I think it came down down to the Cold War and old habits are hard to break?
So just throw Israel to the wolves? There are large elements within Muslim countries who hate everything about us and would even if Israel didn't exist. Oil money has given them the means to act out against nonbelievers. Doesn't matter whether it's Christian, Jewish, Hindu, or others. Israel is intolerable to them because in their religion a non believer can't be in a position of dominance over them. They will never stop going after Israel. I think when Jews were allowed to leave Europe for Palestine after WWII the powers that be didn't realize the ramifications of what they were stirring up. But the Jews are there now. They aren't going anywhere. The Trump administration was making headway in getting peace accords signed between Israel and various Arab nations. It's a shame that Biden turned his back on that. Could be that our military/industrial complex wants the endless wars the Middle East provides. Just another reason to try to thwart Trump.

We benefit from our close relationship. Do you not agree from a national security and force projection standpoint? Mossad provides us with tons of intel as well.
