LivingSocial expected to lay off 400 in U.S.

LivingSocial Inc. is slated to launch a major round of layoffs Thursday, with as many as
400 job cuts expected across its U.S. workforce, according to sources with knowledge
of the daily deal giant’s plans.

Those cuts are expected to span a wide range of positions and markets, including in
LivingSocial’s home turf of D.C., the sources said.

It is not known how many will occur in D.C., where LivingSocial maintains six
offices downtown.

The layoffs raise a host of questions about the future. First and foremost: LivingSocial in July won
an up-to $32.5 million tax break from the D.C. Council on the promise that it would stay
based in D.C.

The legislation calls on the company not only to maintain and expand its 1,000-employee
base in the District, but to move into a new headquarters of at least 200,000 square feet.

Landmark lays off 22 more workers as patient volume drops

WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- Landmark Medical Center on Wednesday laid off 22 employees after patient
volume dropped in recent weeks.

Spokesman Bill Fischer said that the hospital has seen a steady but "not dramatic" decline in patients.

The move comes on the heels of 31 layoffs four weeks ago at Landmark, which has been in receivership
since June 2008.

The hospital's union has challenged the layoffs.

Fischer said the latest layoffs were "across the board," not in one sector.

One was at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island, which Landmark owns.

Where will they relocate this city in trouble?

State Senator Proposes Dissolving City Of Detroit
November 28, 2012
LANSING (CBS Detroit) – It would no doubt be controversial, but the idea of dissolving the fiscally
struggling city of Detroit and absorbing it into Wayne County is being tossed around in Lansing.

WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick reports some state Republicans are talking about giving the
city the option to vote itself into bankruptcy.

And mid-Michigan Senator Rick Jones said all options should be considered — including dissolving the city.

Dude, if you actually would read the stories on Crayola, you will see that they are closing one plant and OPENING a LARGER plant thus INCREASING the number of people they will employ. Sure, from the old plant "approx 70" will lose thier jobs, but some will move with the plant to the larger facility.

Once operational, the new plant will hire "new" workers.

Happens all the time. Its called growth.

You cant just "attempt" to extrapolate the convenient part of stories just to fit YOUR narative of job losses.
