I wouldn't even have an opinion on it if:

A) Any of them could tell me what it represents

B) Any of them could tell me what the actual date is. (didn't know "nine" was such a complicated syllable)

C) If any of them knew this existed before 2019.
A) Sins of the white man.

B) 6/19/1865

C) Supposedly we have been celebrating this for 150 years.

I been using it as the date of my own hit single.... "Kill..Kill...Kill..da white man..yeah..yeah..Kill Kill......Kill Kill da white man.

So the headline says several people were killed and the article says there was "one" fatality. What was it?

Maybe the article is saying that only one of those killed was like a Mortal Kombat style fatality.

Actually just checked the article. One fatality in Willowbrook and several across the various locations discussed.

Back in the late 80s I learned what Juneteenth was... I could\can understand why black Texans celebrate it. If it wasn't for the union army, they probably would have remained slaves for decades after emancipation.

Doesn't make sense to make it a national holiday, though.
They need to pick a day that represents emancipation, and use that. Juneteenth and the Texas government made a mockery of their freedom.

Isn't June 19th the anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation?

Nope. It's complicated.
Celebrating Juneteenth kind of actually celebrates how Texas defied the emancipation, and kept slaves for an additional two years.

But... Suit yourselves.
Someone mentioned this the other day but it's likely just a matter of time until there's an official gay holiday. Probably on the anniversary of the Stonewall riot. Or maybe Harvey Milk's birthday.

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.

The war ended in 1865. Texas did not keep slaves for 2 more years. All the southern states defied the emancipation proclamation, which was signed in 1863.

OK, looked it up. It was June 19th, 1865 in Texas when slaves were officially free under the terms of the Emancipation Proclamation.
Yeah, when the war ended. The proclamation was signed on January 1 1863. The war had 2 more years left. No one freed anyone in the south.
