Healthcare is contributed to the union by the by the company weekly in most areas.

Yeah, i didnt really think about it before responding. Contributions are contributions, but they still pay dues and initiation fees. Who really knows what the locals do with that money.

My entire purpose is to retire two decades before I'd even be eligible to receive the pension that I won't earn anyway.

There are, actually, other ways to make money than being a brownslave.
