Local 804 Drivers Walked Out

not what i voted for

Either it's the Executive board or the 249 members!! If the board stays we will be bankrupt! UPS and the 249 members will sue and impose serious fines on the local which will leave it with absolutely nothing in the bank! Think of medical copays going up to $50 or higher!

The one that has to go is the BA that stated on you tube it was his decision and his alone that he had to strike UPS for violating the grievance procedure. In another video he was told by Tim to send the drivers back to work over the phone and Reynolds went to the building and told them it wasn't sanctioned strike!
Aren't these the people that said the members need to be told the truth. If you think that speaking up about a BA that maybe gets 250 drivers fired is finger pointing you are damn right.

Out of line?!.. My goodness!
What is the meaning of that petition? are we saying that if ups doesn't stop we gonna strike?

Call Tim and ask him if we are going to get the pension increase now!

Once again we have the same old characters who come on here and recite the same old attacks on TDU and the E/B from Local 804 (Tim S's local). It is nothing new: attack their fellow union brothers and side with UPS in this whole matter.
You dividers are so blinded by your hatred of TDU and Tim's successes over the years, that you cannot be reasonable.

Once again, we have UPS firing a veteran driver while not allowing him without due cause or any touch of justice here. Once again UPS has violated our contract (which of course they do on a daily basis), but THIS TIME hundreds of members stood up and WALKED OUT and said : NO MORE...ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!
Illegal or not, this action symbolized a built up frustration of every union worker in this company (if not the country).

We have Hoffa/Hall scurrying on the sidelines quietly drinking the UPS kool aid and practically doing UPS's bidding. They were given a strong hand on the contract but instead they gave it all away at the table for "30 pieces of silver."

Is it right or "illegal" , maybe an arbitrator will say. But too many of us are sick and tired of UPS bullying tactics, harassment and intimidation. So we say: No More!!

I really hope this spreads to other buildings and other locals in other states. It is time to stand up ourselves. Some of our leaders refuse to lead (read: Hoffa and Hall, amongst other feckless leaders) and prefer to hide. Therefore it is our right and obligation to ourselves and our posterity to take control ourselves.

Im reading and hearing that important politicians and activists are joining the fight for justice here in our local. Public Advocate Patricia James is trying to push UPS to be reasonable and discuss a negotiated settlement between UPS and the union.

We've seen how Corporate America has gone after working families recently as well as reactionary, republican politicians going after public unions. This attack on working people must stop. It is unions that struggle to protect working people of this country. It is unions that struggle for dignity and respect.

You backstabbers are complicit with UPS' uncivil, unreasonable and immoral actions and policies.

Yes, 250 members walked out , but maybe its about time!!Fifty years ago or so it was "illegal" for blacks to sit at lunch counters in certain parts of this country. But it took brave people to stand up by sitting down for justice!! Some at lunch counters...some on buses.

Well, today 250 union members have stood up and said things must change here too!!

Old guard "leaders" never showed the way. They only hid for cover and accepted go along to get along, made a few deals and settled for below average and complacency time after time.

New leaders like Tim S , Zuckerman and others are blazing new trails for a better future for us all!! Now is not the time for breaking solidarity. The job now is to keep those members from being walked off the property for good. Only if we all stick together will this work. UPS is counting on selfish, individualistic members to bash their fellow brothers. Don't walk into their trap!! If management decides to officially fire 5 drivers tomorrow, 250 more of us should walk out the next day!

Ron Carey lead the fight in our local in the 1960s , 70s and 80s and by putting members first he was able to put the fear of god into management here! Not all of his wildcat strikes were successful but in the end management feared and respected him.

Liam got up on that light post telling his members the truth and what was at stake and the repercussions. He was our William Wallace. But they stood there ground and fought the good fight in Maspeth. Not just for the sake of Local 804 members but for all UPSers in this country . Someone had to!!

I'll end with a quote by Mario Savio: "When the operation of the machine becomes so odius, makes you sick at heart that you cant take part , you cant even passively take part and you got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels ...upon the leavers , upon all the apparatus and you got to make it stop and you got to indicate to the people who run it, and the people who own it that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!!"

REINSTATE THE MASPETH 250!!
That was a waste of time. Simply put, if Sausage could handle UPS prior to this event, it never would have needed to happen.

Why does every TDU defender never admit they are TDU supporters?

Annoy a liberal today. Hit them with facts.
You must be Tiny Tim. Quit. Your not fit to represent true Teamsters. Just resign and have a sausage on us.

Why does every TDU defender never admit they are TDU supporters?
Blind hatred of TDU and Reformers is your problem. And you don't even see it.

I work in Maspeth and was part of that day. We were all fed up with UPS management violating our contract rights! What they did to the driver that was fired was made up lies by the manager. We were all upset and willing to stay outside. Even when told to go in, we stayed out for almost 2 hours in the snow. The next week on Thursday in the office, UPS read the contract to us. I went home and checked it out because I couldn't believe I was fired but working. Something is weird about that. I know UPS like to keep us in fear but why keep us working?

I found what they read to us.

This 1st part is interesting: Section 4 – No Strikes or Lockouts (a) The Union agrees that it will not cause or permit its members to cause strikes of any kind, stoppages,or any other interference with any of the operations of the Company during the term of the Agreement,so long as the Company abides by the procedure prescribed for the settlement of disputes and differences and the decisions of the arbitrators as provided in this Agreement. The Company agrees that there shall be no lockout during the term of this Agreement,so long as the Union abides by the procedure prescribed for the settlement of disputes and differences and the decisions of the arbitrator as provided in this Agreement.

What is the procedure prescribed for the settlement of disputes and differences? If UPS didn't follow procedure doesn't that mean we can Strike? Doesn't that mean it is legal? If it is legal, than wouldn't the next section on illegal strikes (18.5) not even matter? Can anyone answer this?

I'm in 804 but not in Maspeth. Yes, the union can strike but it must give notice (i believe 72 hours). Liam pulling the building was illegal (while I personslly applaud you guys) and unfortunately, the 804 executive board seems more than willing to throw you drivers under the bus. I hope you were't one of the ones who got terminated....good luck.

The biggest TDU guy has been summoned to right a novel and work his spin on us! How have you been? This is all about one driver getting fired like at Melville! Idk but drivers get walked off daily here! That have done nothing wrong! This time it was a close friend of the board that brought votes and support to the TDU organization! Maybe you should finally tell the members why a 25 plus year guy gets fired for loading his truck? You know that's a lie! Your gonna get more people hurt! Tim and zuckerman? Look whose kicking off there campaign already!! Tim has yet to make a statement! But TDU sent there letter out backing Liam actions and supporting drivers!! Tim is a proven coward in all these building! He tells us to file grievances but pulls a building for his buddies! Favoritism for contributions at it finest. I woke the PR scum up! Lols

250+ hard working drivers fired because Liam's buddy got fired. Why didn't he or any other board member want to walk for the other hundreds of workers fired over the last few years? Oh that's right, they weren't his close buddies!

Guys, see the light, this was an illegal strike and we won't win this battle with 250+ casualties.

Liam you got my vote... my vote to be removed from officer immediately

local804news has found the arbitrator ruling when a walkout was orchestrated by the executive board in the Melville facility 2 years ago.
Is important to remember who represented the union in this case,
Louie Nikolaidis, Esq.

Louie Nikolaidis Bio has taken from his own law firm wed site.

"Louie Nikolaidis
has been practicing labor law for over 25 years. He handles arbitrations and negotiates collective bargaining agreements on behalf of employees in the public and private sectors, and has extensive litigation experience in federal and state courts. Mr. Nikolaidis provides legal advice to unions on labor relations, organizing campaigns, strikes, elections and internal governance issues.

Mr. Nikolaidis has taught courses in Sociology and Labor Studies at Rutgers University, and conducted workshops at events sponsored by the Association for Union Democracy and Teamsters for a Democratic Union. In 1985-86, Mr. Nikolaidis clerked for the Honorable Stephen Skillman, an Appellate and Chancery Division Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey. He became associated with LCN in 1987, and became a partner in 1993."

Local804 president has mentioned mr. Nikolaidis as an in-house lawyer!
It seams to be a big paid back to TDU associates! mr. Nikolaidis earned over 240k on 2012 the same year he represented local804 on the melvile walkout where local804 lost that arbitration.

Mr. Nikolaidis is also the architect of a term now use in local804 "last chance agreement" where a union member that gets fired and gets brought back they have to sign a document call last chance agreement, where they simply give up all their rights and the company can fired them again for any reason.

You know me...
Lmao! Is that what a last chance agreement is? Hey, while we're at it, I heard once that the reason Liam's hair is so silky smooth is because he's not really human, but he's part of a race of aliens known as " Sheik Dos Suave".

Did you read or have knowledge of the Arbitrators decision in the Melville case. It said Oringers actions were irresponsible. So how do want applause for Liam for the same irresponsible action that put 250 drivers in a position to be fired.
How dare you to compare this issue to blacks being discriminated against.
The fact is Liam Russertt acted irresponsibly and lead 250 hard working teamsters with families off the job knowing we lost an arbitration in Melville. If anyone has any doubts read the arbitration!
We all support those hard working Teamsters!

We had a driver fired for stealing time. It was a total BS write up, he was gone for about 10 days and now he's back to work. Most people who get "fired" seem to get their jobs back. Still don't know why there was a walkout...I do wish those drivers luck!

The driver in question will most likely get his job back. I am concerned about the 250 drivers that walked. Believe the company wants to firer each one of them to stop the walk outs, and that arbitration gives them the right. This is the unions fault they could point all the fingers they want, it's their problem not the drivers. Ron Carey never walked us out for something like this, that driver would have been reinstated without lost pay.
