He’s demanding a fair contract. The details of that contract are they ask. The question comes down to what does each side feel is fair
"Fairness" has no objective standard by which a measurement can be made.....

BTW, the context of my comment was "Ask" Vs. "Demand", not what you feel is "Fair".

Unfortunately, fair is what the negotiators decide. I didn’t say it had an objective standard. You can tell by reading these forms there’s no way to make everyone happy.

So the same old bull:censored2: as Hoffa. Let the company screw us around as long as they want to. I thought this guy was different, that he actually had some balls. Should have known better.

Big difference. Hoffa extended the contracts for 6 or 8 months.

If O’Brien doesn’t have a handshake agreement by Aug 1st, we walk.

If he has a handshake agreement before Aug 1st, we keep working while it’s voted on. It may be extended a few weeks, not months, like Hoffa.

Here’s the kicker. Handshake agreement. We vote. Results come in Aug 17. It is turned down. Do we strike?

Nope. We work while O’Brien finds out why we turned it down and what we want.

Still a far cry from Hoffa just automatically extending every contract while he continues to negotiate for months.

The point I think people are missing that non liberal is making is that O’Brien said there will be no handshake agreements. So I get where he’s coming from with the confusion

I get it. It’s just that there was a nonsensical rush then to get everything done by 7/5? And now all of a sudden it’s oh as long as we get a handshake agreement by 8/1 he just keeps giving concessions that’s all. The company notices.

the thing I can’t figure out though is what does UPS gain by waiting so long? The longer they push this, the more it looks like teamsters demanded it from them rather then ups giving it to us, and every day it seems the public becomes more aware of what’s going on and seems to be on our side. Also this has to be causing a lot of concern and unease for customers, how many have already switched to a competitor to try and be safe and get ahead of the strike (although I suppose big customers have a contract)? I just don’t see UPS game plan? Surely they can tell by now sean is not going to budge

They know exactly what they’re doing. They have people whos only job 365 days of the year is to work on contracts. The longer they wait the more anxiety they it causes us and the more concessions they get from the union. That’s why I thought Sean was going to force them into a quick decision but I guess not.

I wasn’t here for the 97 strike, but they have done since I have been here is do a handshake agreement and even though it wasn’t ratified yet we still worked until it was. Then we end up getting a big retro check when it is ratified. SOB Said that was not going to happen again and if he lets it, he will be just as tainted as Hoffa was and we’ll just keep giving the same old concessions contract after contract. Like every politician says but never follows through on, they need to be held accountable or the working man loses..again.

This reads like a tentative will keep us working .

I think the reason being is that he is very close to what he wants. He doesn’t want the whole thing thrown out and start all over.

He is bending just a little, and I don’t blame him. If he gets what he wants in a handshake deal before Aug 1st, who cares that we continue working while we vote.

The ultimate goal is to get a good deal.

How would you suggest he force them?
