Negotiations

It does seem weird to me also, but these guys know way more about it than me.

I guess I don’t understand even the broad philosophy of it all. Why would the union ever make concessions at all? Right now Sean is basically saying “this is what we want, and if we don’t get it we’re striking”, so why doesn’t that happen every time? Is it just that eventually the public and maybe even the workers would grow tired of the strike talks and it loses its power?

Has these negotiations and tactics been different to the previous ones?

I thought he was forcing them. Idk, he’s the negotiator that’s why he didn’t start negotiating early like they always do. He said UPS knows exactly what we want, if we don’t get it, we’ll strike. His words.
I know, my point is that, until Aug 1, we are on UPS' time. They know that, they understand the rules. The later they go the more stress they put on the members, the .ore likely they are to accept something they don't want. It's all a game, my man, we're just the pieces.

That’s what I was saying to someone else. That’s why I thought he was going to get tough with them. Guess he could yet, just not looking likely.

You say you’ve been here 10 years. That means 2 previous contracts.

You didn’t get involved before to know how the process works?

But to answer your question, this is the most militant I’ve seen the union as well as the company in my 18 years here.

nope, I’ve been far too ignorant in the past and was just thinking short term. Working multiple jobs throughout the day and just paying my bills and trying to have a life outside of that. Foolish of me, but I’m trying to do better, and learn.

To be fair though, it wasn’t even necesarily that I ignored it or didn’t care, I really didn’t hear much about anything at all. I went in and did my job and left, like my other jobs, I never really heard much about anything from
Anyone . I never had any union reps talk to me or my pd or anything.

I believe that will be his stance, he's put too many shops on the street for me to believe otherwise.
He’s probably looking big picture as well.

I’m sure SOB and the rest of the Teamster negotiators know that the national media attention during these negotiations might go a long way toward organizing employees at other companies like Fed Ex and especially Amazon.

A big contract win would be great for the future of the union
