Negotiations

In 97 I feel the union was more up front on strike issues. The main one being the pension.
My only problem is union officials still get paid during a strike. It’s easy to make threats and posters when you know you have a paycheck coming in. Part of their salary should be reduced during a strike.
We will get paid during a strike also, the members in 97 didn’t have it as well and they still had the balls to do what was right

Someone just mentioned his house was currently under construction when he was striking, it was just as scary back then

And O’Brien has been pretty clear what the issue is. Money

There's that Measter attitude.

I don't care how good the contract is. I'm voting no so I can strike UPS to teach them a lesson. To pay them back.

I am striking, costing thousands of Teamsters their jobs, so I can teach UPS a lesson.

I am striking, making that RPCD that just reached top rate, that just bought a house and started a family, have to bump inside, bump 2 part timers, just to work and maintain healthcare, at half his hourly rate.

I am striking so those inside part time employees that get bumped by the full timers coming inside gets laid off and loses their healthcare and income.

I am striking, not giving a crap about the thousands who will be laid off, just so I can teach UPS a lesson. Brilliant!
it will all be worth it in the end

Which ABF drivers make 100k a year? I’m curious because I know many. And how is losing 20% buying power irrelevant?

A lot of them that work line haul, whish is most drivers. They pick up an extra run a couple times a month, 66+ cents per mile adds up.

It's irrelevant because the discussion was ABF's pay relative to the freight industry, not about what a dollar is worth.

No sorry but you are incorrect again, seems to be coming a habit lately. For one that is not most of their truckers, most of their truckers were, before their contract they just negotiated, making 26.50hr. Two, picking up an extra run or two is not making 100k a year. That’s working your ass off to make 100k a year, which is fine, but it can be denied at any time by the company, so you don’t really make 100k yr. Sorry, not how that works. And the convo wasn’t about the freight industry, it was truck drivers worth in general. The going wage for a driver.

If that’s true, Truck drivers should be paid WAY more than that, 1. Because it is such a tough job and 2. For public safety. We shouldn’t have a bunch of overworked, underpaid people driving multiple thousand pound behemoths around

Our union rep said they should start negotiations next week. Told them they should get ready to book flights next week. I pray they get what they are asking for. I really don't want to go on strike, but will if need be.
They are fighting over inside rates. They supposedly offered a good increase to us FT workers. Shall see hopefully by the end of next week.

Rumor is they’re not meeting next week either…

Well the biggest thing is just that there aren’t enough drivers. A driver can have his pick of companies to make anywhere from 80-100k a year.

Yeah, right.

Lose thousands of jobs now, put thousands out of work just so that part timers, who usually don’t stick around too long, can make a few extra bucks.

UPS already agreed to raise their wages. SOB just said it wasn’t enough.
I heard it was like $2. That is low so if that’s true then I don’t blame him for wanting more. I’m saying if none of us get an immediate increase of $3-$5 on top of our “historic” contract, im voting no.
