O'Brien criticized for upcoming speech

I believe Sean O’Brien believes he has the commitment of a core group of Republicans that will pass union friendly legislation.

The reality is we need those Republicans because they’re going to win in their respective states.

So many people are focused on the presidential election. I personally do not believe Sean Will endorse the Republican nominee. He’s more focused on the down ballot elections and states that we need some Republicans to vote our way.

Will it work? I don’t know. But it’s not easy going against the conventional wisdom of your organization. So for that, I give him credit.
Practice picking, on every news station during the contract negotiations, visiting hundreds of buildings including mine where I was able to take some pics and actually talk to him (including about our kids)..no way in hell would Hoffa ever have gone to this extent. Guy isn't perfect but believe he's thinking outside the box and trying some non conventional stuff... IMO that counts for something.

Have you ever seen trump on a Union picket line? And you never will.

Yep he literally shows up to make a speech during the UAW strike and told them to stop paying their dues. He hates unions and only sees them as an obstacle to “business” aka screwing over the little guy.

Maybe Sean can get in his ear and get him to come around on some things. I don’t blame Sean for trying. But I kind of don’t think it’s going to really work.

Work now, Grieve later.
At least invite competition.

If Democrats don’t feel any risk of losing Teamster support, they won’t feel the sense of urgency to work as hard.

If we’re willing to support anyone who advances the cause of labor, regardless of the letter in front, it puts a fire under the butts of the powers that be.
Absolutely. Too many politicians have been taking our vote for granted. It wouldn't be bad to shake them up and make them work for it.

Sean's being announced as VP. Didn't see this coming.
Wouldn't surprise me. Just look at the man's political track record... Big Hoffa supporter, hates TDU...oh wait... hates Hoffa, loves TDU!

Thank God he's not the same when it comes to Pensions.... whoops.

Let's face it. This is all about votes and staying president of the IBT. Politics is a job and he's trying to keep his job.

Can't tell you how many people private messaged me during the election.

"I know Sean! He's not TDU trust me! TDU is just riding his coat tails to get rid of Hoffa."

Months later.

Sean speaking at TDU convention.
Sean praising TDU for all their hard work and webinars

Pretty sure the IBT does webinars.

I'm just saying it's hilarious. I'd love to talk to LeadBelly now.

"It's 11:22pm and TDU still suc... Is amazing!"

I was about to say part of it is to get the vote of Republican Teamster members next time there's an IBT election. Union support is at its highest in decades "supposedly" and more right wing voters support labor. Will the people they vote in do anything for us is the question.

Hoffa was a P.O.S sell out that chose not to run out of embarrassment for the 2018 UPS contract. Also if you look at other teamster jobs with different companies most of the wages and hours you have to put in are a joke. It's going to take a long time to fix the damage he's done.

Hoffa and Biden were not really running things at the end of their final terms. Study the history...Hoffa was out to lunch way before his forced retirement and the companies took full advantage of his weak leadership. Still nepotism is alive and well in our leadership positions, whether O'Brien can really be a leader is yet to be seen. Anyway we needed a change, Hoffa and his red shirts sold out long time ago and were more than willing to cut and run, never willing to taking the high road on any issue in order to appease UPS.

Maybe maybe not. But I would say already there are Republicans who have done things for us. Not necessarily at the national level, but if you go to some of the state houses that is where the rubber meets the road. There’s quite a few states that have pushback against driverless trucks with the help of Republicans and Democrats. Pretty hard to look your constituents in the eye and say you think it’s OK for driverless truck run over a family of people and have the corporation owns it almost no liability.

Do you feel that the issue was actually solved? It seems more like a bandage was applied.
I believe it is solved for at least the next 20 years, after that it’s up to the Teamsters to organize more or die.

I believe Sean is aware of that. That is why his political calculations are what they are now. Some people can’t see it or understand it but he’s thinking long-term. He understands he needs some wins very soon.
