Because some people aren't interested in cost minimization as their primary goal.
It's about status. Why buy a Lamborghini over a Chevy? Sure it looks cool and the performance is amazing but at the end of the day you're driving from point A to point B. For a lot more money. People can do what they like with their money but they shouldn't tell us one is vastly superior in every way when ultimately it's about what people can afford. If a car can run the necessary distance on just electric and do it reliably for considerably less then the more expensive car it's just about status and will appeal to those with money but won't ever dominate car sales because the less affluent just can't afford it.

Yes, the less affluent can't afford it. Yet.
It was part of the design to sell to the very rich. Then the rich. Then the upper middle. And so on. Can you just not think in long time horizons or something?

Honestly, I don’t believe they ever plan on it. being super cheap because I don’t believe they plan on people driving nearly as much. These companies are calling their selves, mobility companies. Not because they want to sell you a car, because they want to sell you a ride.

For sure. By the time the battery is cheap enough to be bought by the poors, the self-driving will be totally solved and available cheaper. Then they won't sell any cars, and Tesla will make 10 million robotaxis per year.

And when you get on your government issued mobile device and ask the self driving car to take you to the gun store, or to the steak restaurant it will lock you out and tell you your score is not good enough to go anywhere. Now be a good citizen and do what you’re told.

Precisely. It is the perfect leverage point for social credit implementation.

And we're lucky if it's a mobile device and not a brain implant.

But some say, that’s conspiracy nonsense even though many of the government have already admitted, they are trying to model things after China’s social credit score.

OK, but will they reach that horizon with the big battery? Got PHEV's right now that'll do the job with a much smaller battery. Tesla's econoboxes are going to be as appealing as their premium models?

The government ultimately wants to ban any sort of gas engine, and that includes, efficient reasonably priced hybrids, they were the Darling for a while now they are on the extermination list as well.

China is falling apart and doesn't have the political structure we have. That's why the social credit score business will never fly here. Demagogues playing on people's fears to make money.

No, the liberals want to ban all fossil fuels. But when faced with the reality that it's not feasible, in a country this big with as many people as we have, to electrify everything, they'll settle for the next best thing, much lower emissions. When we had the Covid lock downs and a lot less driving there was a noticeable improvement in air quality in big cities. Having everyone in plug-in hybrids driving on electric for most trips will accomplish what they want. At the same time they are going to have to acknowledge, as what was put forth by that comedian on the video I posted, that poor countries are wanting progress too and aren't going to settle for staying impoverished but rather are going to keep polluting to keep developing. No matter what our liberals want there are harsh realities they are not only going to have to face but the other half of the country isn't going to let them impose on us.

Lol you keep believing that. Our whole economy switching from a customer based economy to government control economy. The government is the customer to the big business and they will do what they’re told. Don’t believe me? Just look at Dodge They are getting rid of their two best selling vehicles, the challenger and the charger right after years were they had some of the highest sales. It’s not because the customer wanted it, they vehemently don’t.

“In their defense, the decision to stop selling V8s in favor of electric muscle cars isn't Dodge acting purely on its own accord. Government at the state, federal and international level have made it pretty clear that they want...or need us out of gas cars and into EVs as soon as possible.”

It has nothing to do with just liberals, they certainly suck but it’s politicians in general who always want more power and control it’s universal. You never fail to bang the same old drum over and over again.
