Out for a Few Weeks

I went out on a strained knee about 7 years ago. Supposedly should've healed in a few months. I was out for almost 6 months. Fedex will pressure you to come back early. Don't let them if you don't feel right yet. I actually had some lady call me and tell me "not to milk it". I came back before I was 100% and ended going back out in a few weeks.
A guy in my work group was out for a couple of months, a couple years ago. He showed me a letter he was sent from FedEx's insurer suggesting that he would probably be better off and should look for job opportunities in another industry, given the nature of his injury.

This wasn't a guy who gets "injured" every summer; it was his first time on comp since starting at FedEx. What does that accomplish and why would FedEx even allow a letter like that to be sent out?

Yeah, the lady who said this is supposed to be the person to help you with anything between insurance, doctors , and the company. I felt her job was more of the nature of " push them back to work." She always called every couple weeks asking when I would be back to work.

That's when you tell that dbag to call your doctor directly@ (800)867-5309, yas???
Talked to my doctor about it actually. He was pissed because fedex was pressuring him to clear me on his end as well. He didn't clear me to return to duty an extra 2 weeks because of it.

Unless they’ve got M.D. after their name, only my doctor has the final say.
Good. I think a lot of us are just trying to give you a heads up on what to expect from corporate. Hell, maybe with all the turnover they don't even bother anymore as long as you stay.

And I’m grateful. Saw the orthopedist today. Choice 1) If I want my wrist as good as it was, I can have surgery to get a plate and screw.

Choice 2) If I just want to be better but not fully functional, just a cast.

Surgery, of course. Tomorrow morning.

Will I set off airport alarms?

An actuary looked at the situation and went with it.

Are you sure about WC? Even if we are self insured, FedEx is still contracting with the insurer to handle claims as expediently and cheaply as possible, employees be damned.
I'm pretty sure they are self insured for wc as well. But just like with our health ins FedEx has more control over the whole process.

The whole reason for being self insured is to control costs. The insurance companies are just administrators just like our health ins.

They do everything else other than fund the benefits. What is it that you think FedEx does outside of handle the money?
