A country like Malaysia is controlled by Muslims but has large Christian, Hindu, and Buddhist minorities. They are very tolerant of Westerners. At the same time Muslim extremists in Malaysia beheaded Daniel Pearl a couple decades ago. But overall most Muslims there are very tolerant.
