The $6 billion was always sitting there in South Korean banks and Iran could have gotten it, but at a much lower exchange rate. Part of the Qatari brokered deal is how and when Iran gets the money plus a better rate.

Also, it's not like Iran gets a check saying "Gift from the US Taxpayers". The $6 billion is loosened up so they can buy certain goods on the international market.

Who said I believe otherwise? The Iranians are going to do that no matter what we do. They aren't broke and hoping someone will give them money. But they also are holding at least one American who was visiting his family there. And I may be wrong but I think there's one who was imprisoned for being a Christian.
