(The Hill)- Over two-thirds of Americans believe that President Obama’s signature stimulus bill was a waste, a new poll found Tuesday.
Sixty-eight percent of Americans said they think the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) was a “waste,” compared to just 29 percent who think the money was well-spent, according to an ABC/Washington Post poll released Tuesday morning.
The figure suggests that the cornerstone of the Obama administration’s agenda to bolster the economy has fallen flat with voters as elections loom in four weeks. The poll also hints that the White House’s effort to sell the bill to the public has been far from successful.
Republicans have hammered Democrats who supported the stimulus over the last 20 months, accusing them of wasting money while not creating jobs, while Democrats claim that hundreds of thousands more jobs would have been lost had the stimulus not been enacted.
The legislation has become such a boondoggle for some Democrats that it remains a potent political weapon against some of their candidates.

McDonald's, 29 other firms get health care coverage waivers
The United Agricultural Benefit Trust, the California-based cooperative that offers coverage to farm workers, was allowed to exempt 17,347 people. San Diego-based Jack in the Box's waiver is for 1,130 workers, while McDonald's asked to excuse 115,000.
The biggest single waiver, for 351,000 people, was for the United Federation of Teachers Welfare Fund, a New York union providing coverage for city teachers.

The Laws of Economics Strike Back

Well, Obamacare has barely started taking effect, and the evidence is already rolling in. I hate to say we told them so, but ... we told them so. The laws of economics have struck back.

Health insurers Wellpoint, Cigna, Aetna, Humana and CoventryOne will stop writing policies for all children (http://tinyurl.com/24437o5). Why? Because Obamacare requires that they insure already sick children for the same price as well children.
That sounds compassionate, but -- in case Obamacare fanatics haven't noticed -- sick children need more medical care. Insurance is about risk, and already sick children are 100 percent certain to be sick when their coverage begins. So if the government mandates that insurance companies cover sick children at the lower well-children price, insures will quit the market rather than sandbag their shareholders. This is not callousness -- it's fiduciary responsibility. Insurance companies are not charities. So, thanks to the compassionate Congress and president, parents of sick children will be saved from expensive insurance -- by being unable to obtain any insurance! That's how government compassion works.

In 2014, the same rule will kick in for adults. You now know what to expect.

Why we're angry, Pt. 735 -- Ever wonder why the Tea Party movement took off so quickly? Associated Press: "More than 89,000 stimulus payments of $250 each went to people who were either dead or in prison, a government investigator says in a new report. The payments, which were part of last year's massive economic recovery package, were meant to increase consumer spending to help stimulate the economy. But about $18 million went to nearly 72,000 people who were dead, according to the report by the Social Security Administration's inspector general... The inspector general's report said that if similar payments are authorized in the future, prison inmates should be ineligible and the government should be able to recover payments made to dead people." Oh, ya think? Would that be alright? Is it okay if you don't take money out of our pockets and give it to dead people? The worst part is that $18 million is just a drop in the big-government bucket.

As Arlen Williams over at GulagBound.com points out, Obama is casting actors for Town Hall Audience per Nielsen’s “Back Stage”. Wonder who’s teaching them to faint on cue, expanding on Obama’s image as a college campus rock star?
“What are you doing, October 14th. Would you like to be a “town hall meeting” shill for Barack Obama? According to this official casting notice on Nielsen’s Back Stage site, you still have time to apply and/or audition,” Williams writes. “For nearly 50 years, Back Stage has been the most trusted place for actors to find performing arts and casting information.”

We have no idea whether that’s where the lady who asked Obama for a house and a car originated. Nor do we know whether Back Stage provides as many doctors for White House lawn visits as Halloween provides costumes.
