Carter was awful. Humorous listening to people deify him now. He is single-handedly the man who destroyed union truck drivers pensions in the United States. I guess because he was such a “nice guy, and ment well it’s ok. 🤷‍♂️

i think part of the reason people will worship him because its just propaganda to get us to love someone who is mostly terrible for us. i would guess the media does this for every president except for trump

and then im guessing him destroying pensions would have something to do with him ushering in a new economic system in america neoliberalism.

The one good thing he did as president. He gave us Billy Beer.
I don't know if Billy Beer woud be considered a good thing. I had just turned eighteen at the time and I drank it once. I actually have a full six pack of it in my house. My wife was in an antique store one day and bought a six pack for ten bucks. Usually people would punch a hole in the bottom and keep the can. These are still full and the store did not have a license to sell alcohol. I've thought about popping one open to see if it tasted just as bad as it did back in the 70's.

I ashamed to say now that I voted for Carter. I had just turned eighteen and he had seemed to be a decent Governor. I remember even/odd days to buy gas due to the OPEC oil embargo. Interest rates were in double digits. He used to tell everybody to turn down the thermostat and wear a sweater. He gave up the Panama Canal that the US built, now the Chinese are building there. And finally the Irani Hostage Crisis that dragged on for over a year. The only highlight was the Camp David Peace Agreement between Egypt and Israel. Carter was a very weak leader, I never voted Democrat for President after him. He seemed to be a better person in his later life. I did help build a Habitat for Humanity House and I admired him for his work there.

Pretty much everyone who praises him is for things he did after he was President. Almost nobody will try to defend his record while in office.

I actually wasted a vote for third-party candidate Ross Perot one year even though he had dropped out by election day. That's how Bill Clinton got elected with 49% of the vote the first time. I voted GOP after that, mostly because they usually represent the lesser of two evils. Unfortunately, we only have two competitive parties in the US. I like some of the ideas of the Libertarian Party like less government, but they are too far out on many social issues.

Clinton got 43% in '92. Bush would've won if Perot hadn't run.
