Also you r tax on adjusted gross income. Which means a single ups driver would have to be making some serious coin to get to the 28% mark

You are focusing way too much on your net take home pay.

That's AGI not gross.
In years when I made $150k, my AGI never got over $90k.
Keep track of deductions and deduct everything.
Start a personal business so you can deduct those expenses.

I've seen feeder drivers gross $120k.
