Despite what some of you think, this man was from a resurgence in rock during the grunge movement. Names like Cobain, Weiland, Cornell, Wood, and Staley will forever be remembered by people who listened to this music. It was Gen X's revolution during the 90's and carries on today for us.

That is my main problem with calling him a legend. The 90's grunge bands (mostly from Seattle area) sound so similar you need to stop and think about which band is playing. Good music but I don't see him as really standing out from the crowd.

The grunge movement was more of a niche sound, and those with the ear for it (myself included) could tell many of them apart just by their guitar tones and drumming patterns, let alone their vocalists.

Jerry Cantrell himself even credited Cornell and Soundgarden with being the original pioneers of the "Seattle Sound", leaving their footprint on ROCK forever and playing a significant role in its history.

Weiland he my favorite voice of the era but Cornell most certainly is a legend in his era of rock. Sadly we only got the tip of the iceberg with Weiland due to his personal problems. We got the big picture with Cornell and he's one of the best of my generation for sure.

I'm a big 60's/70's prog rock fan and whenever I pull out my 90's stuff I forget how much good rock came out then as well. Different but quality, and the CD's sound fantastic, not all brickwalled and clipping like post 2000 crap in the loudness war.

His voice was awesome and he will be missed. He was a LEGEND and A HERO in the grunge movement of rock & roll.

5 astonishing vocal tracks that prove Chris Cornell had the greatest voice of his generation

Singer Chris Cornell, who died this Wednesday, was blessed with an astonishing four-octave vocal range. The power of the Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman's voice was no secret among his fans.
We lowering the bar to be a HERO? I don't consider any musician as a hero for being in a band.

I think this might have been a case of the autoerotic asphyxiation like Michael Hutchens and David Carradine. Accidental suicide. He had too much good going on for it to be intentional.

Medical Examiner thought otherwise. I think that was why they waited until after the autopsy to say suicide.

Its happening far to frequently to those grunge rockers. Maybe singing depressing songs gets them depressed.
