I never heard any evidence to suggest this.
All I heard was someone asking for volunteers to help protect one of their businesses.
Something that the local hacks were ordering the local police not to do.

The weapon carried was not a "weapon of war" , but a common hunting rifle.

Putting Rittenhouse on the stand was insanely risky for the defense. Most people, let alone an 18 year-old, are susceptible to the tricks of an experienced prosecutor that are designed to make the defendant look bad to the jury. For instance, provoking an angry outburst, causing nervousness, carefully wording a question to confuse the defendant, wearing a defendant down to the point that he'll unknowingly incriminate himself, etc. Yet the prosecution did so to no avail.

It's a shame the local and state governments abrogated their responsibilities in the name of politics and compelled those who would protect their communities to have to take such steps. Put the blame where it belongs, violent rioters and those who let them get away with it, endangering innocent members of the community.

Should he have been convicted of murder because he was there? Do the actions of grown men attacking him have no bearing on why they are dead or wounded? I've seen video of a man beaten severely, possibly killed, in the 2020 riot in Dallas. He didn't have a weapon. His crime? Trying to stop looting of his business. I'm not thrilled with the idea of a 17 year old being down there in all that mess. But he was and thank God he was armed or most likely he would've been the one killed for the horrible crime of extinguishing a fire.
