It makes one wonder if the original plan was thwarted by the outrage. Was this the original plan?
Option 1. Volume projections drastically decrease the amount of drivers needed for the foreseeable future. To save long-term layoffs company creates the DVSP. This option forces the Unions hand legally- but that will be a tough fight with the lack of quorum at NLRB

Option 2. Volume projections go down temporarily until the sales division wins more profitable accounts and cheaper new drivers replace higher cost veteran drivers.

Option 3. Combination of 1 and 2 and something else that nobody truly understands or can predict.

If this was the original plan then its author needs to be fired. Who that has not already gotten their paperwork in order is going to take 50k to leave? My question was not about the tactic but the amount is absolutely hysterical. There must have been some sort of “change of mind” of a higher number at some point unless 1800 per year of service was truly the plan all along. Did they have a higher number and then rethink things after SOB lost his $&@#?

Doubtful, O’Brien called it illegal. Is it less illegal if it’s only $1800 and not say $5000?
