At my old center,(been out 15 years) no one is taking it. Reading this thread and talking to some drivers I still know, I really don't get it. I know a feeder driver with 48 years of full time. He's not taking it. Several drivers who would have insurance and the time aren't taking it.
I left like everybody else, on a wing and a prayer but, you have to walk away from the money.
Say what you want, like everyone is making some great stand that if you turn it down, UPS is going to come back with a better offer. Don't count on it. This is gonna piss them off. Things are gonna get ugly and there is gonna be a lot of drivers which they would have left.
If you don't walk away and can with a little extra icing on top they're giving, they own you whether you admit or not.
Contractual issues with the buyout notwithstanding, I'm sure the company already has a rough idea of how many drivers they want to eliminate, and they're going to get rid of them one way or another. If not enough people take the buyout, they will just start laying off from the bottom.

I absolutely do. I deal knucklehead like you every day.

Why are they giving me so many stops?

Because you’re getting done by 4:30

Why won’t they fix the Pre Load

Because you’re dumbasses in here loading your own truck every morning.

They don’t give me enough time to take my lunch

Because you skip it every day.

Etc., etc.

Why did I get fired for doing something dishonest like sheating EAMs in the building? Don’t they know I’m a great driver.

No, they don’t care because you’re a dishonest liar,

Shockingly I’ve never had any of these problems for very long. They get fixed pretty quickly when they know you won’t do these things.

If they know you’re a chump and will work for free for them. They will use you like a cheap whore. Can’t blame him that’s smart business.
Well done. The three questions you brought up were spot on.

Which is 100% true.
If you take this offer you should give up your pension and be thrown out of the union.
So then people that file grievances continually knowing they’re not getting resolved are prostitute?

No, I don’t think so.

And whether we like it or not, we have idiots in our union, but they’re our idiots and if they earn a pension, they should get it. That does not imply I think people that take this deal are necessarily idiots.

Would be self-defeating to throw them out of the union because he was still have to represent them. As they are part of for the bargain unit.

Yes and no. Yes, they have a number in mind and, yes, they will up the ante if there are not enough takers on their initial offer.

Layoffs from the bottom eliminates the intent of getting rid of upper seniority drivers.

That's the last place they want to start. The bottom dwellers are the runners. They want old dead weight gone. The company would get back the blow money in 2 years with the runners working.

Well, he did have a conference call where he said anyone who took this offer would be akin to a prostitute, so there’s that….

Yeah, that's funny. He is the one trying to screw us out of a buyout so he can keep his money.

This has nothing to do with a contractual violation or an unfair labor practice for him. This all comes down to money and ego for him. Granted, he needs to keep the Union finances in order, but he knows most who take the buyout are at top rate, with over $100/mo in Union dues.

These, or most of these, drivers, will be replaced with someone paying half the Union dues and he will lose a lot of money. Who's the prostitute now. It's all about money.

His ego is also hurt because UPS didn't consult with him over this buyout. He thought he controlled UPS.

He is basically telling drivers who were walking out the door anyway not to take some cash with them. Sure, O'Brien, tell thousands of drivers that they cannot take this buyout and retire. Tell them that they have to work another year like they were going to and then walk out the door with no "bonus."

It's not about the contract for him, although he knows this doesn't violate the contract, it's about money. He's akin to a prostitute, not us.
