Thr friday night camp spot. Nice lake. Only 3 small bass and tiny bluegill from here. Another lake produced 30 keepers in about 2 hours. RIGHT on the bank about a foot deep. Still a great time. Love that place.

im pissed. They were calling for a :censored2: ton of rain so I didn’t set lines out last night. Now they took the rain completely out
Yeah today was the stormy day so we left yesterday. No rain today. Figures. Hit a storm friday while on the lake. Only lasted about 20 minutes but was enough to soak everything. Our camp spot got wet. We got that fire going though.

Ohio County Kentucky. Strip mine lakes. Don't have lights but it would be a good time to throw a black plastic worm. VERY deep in spots.

Strip mine lakes can be very pretty but many are too acidic for fish.
Not the ones I hit. You can tell the acidic lakes. Almost blue/green clear water. You can throw a quarter overboard and watch it go for a long while. Those are called "hot" lakes and they are few and far between where I go anymore. These pits have been around since my Pawpaws days.

This lake produced monster redears and gills in the past. It is so small that I feel it is being fished out for panfish but there are big bass in here.
There is a supposedly great fishing lake near here that might have been good in the past but too silted up now. There is another little lake that had huge panfish - until they drained it to repair the dam. Fishing hasn't been the same since.

Lakes change a lot over time.

Got some in Jersey like that. Underwater mine shafts keep the water below 60 year round. Lots of people swim in these holes and drown, clear as day water and not a fish to be seen.

You can date when an area was mined by what kind of reclamation was done.

Pressure has a lot to do with it. I have gone from catching 10" bluegill with regularity to the occasional 10"er. Still good ones to be had. Next trip will be the walk in areas where vehicles can't go. It will be worth the effort to walk or dolly a kayak down some dirt road. I love Kentucky.
