I have a few comments to make. There is currently no Administrator for this site. That means that mods don't have the power to put and remove members out of the moderation queue line. If I had that power, I would simply empty it out and see what happens. Some people are in there and I don't know why. Cheryl never put anybody in there over one report, she usually gave people more chances than they deserved. Members stay in there if there is no change in their behavior. A workaround is simply to do what so many others have done, create a new account. So far the tech support guy and Cheryl's daughter has not communicated much with staff, I don't know if the tech guy can grant Administrative powers.
As far as some people who complain about bullying, there is another simple solution. Open your account options and use the "Ignore" feature. Type in some names and the site will magically improve for you. All those other members you don't like will instantly disappear from your feed. You will occasionally see that member's post if they are quoted by somebody else. Do the adult thing and just keep scrolling. Why people like to fight and argue with complete strangers online has always seemed to be a great waste of time to me. It takes two to argue, put them on "Ignore", or just ignore comments you feel are stupid. Nobody cares for self-appointed victims, some people seem to enjoy that.
After several discussions in the mod forum and private chats, we are thinking about making UPS Discussions "On Topic" only. There is simply too much thread derailing, it's getting too ridiculous. There are about twenty other forums on this site to do that. I don't know when we will start this policy, but the sooner the better.
Fair enough.
However, I find it interesting that the folks that are bullied(for lack of a better term) or viciously attacked(this is the thread "derailing") have to "start a new account" or do something else. This is akin to the victim having to move away or change their behavior and the criminal skating. I could be more graphic but the point is made. Pointing out again the TOS and On Topic "rules". Say, why do I have to do lot's of extra stuff?
Personally, I don't "like to fight and argue with complete strangers online"......I would prefer civil conversations....
Personally, I will defend myself here or anywhere. I will answer to the bullying and slander/libel. Noting the anonymity of the offenders. Whether it's "adult' to do that....well, who is to say. How much do we have to take?
"On Topic"....well, well.....my prediction: eliminate the bullying(it's just a few folks)(half dozen or so)(there's only about 20 folks on here anyway) and most of it will be resolved. Now, this idea is going to be brutal on the Mods if it is strictly adhered to. You have a few folks that are so vicious with their relentless attacks.........it is nearly 100% of their posting. No? Absolutely is....
I will say, it will be interesting to see how fairly "On topic" will be interpreted and applied.
I will say, up until this very moment we have had to fend for ourselves......we are tired of it......so are you. Just a few folks are causing the chaos(easily identified)........you want civility? We do to. Stop the bullying(Off topic)....I'll stop pointing it out/responding....magic.
Lastly, I hope I don't have to point out victim shaming. Self-appointed or not. Thanks for listening.
