My Dad was at Pearl Harbor in 1944 . He was only 17-18 at the time. He never spoke about Pearl.
I asked him one time about what Pearl Harbor was like when I was around 18 and he said he didn't want to talk about it..

His career was as an aircraft mechanic. Worked on everything from C130's, helicopters, etc for the Air Force as a civil servant. They would send him all over the country for special jobs like emergency engine replacements and such.

From 1971-73 our family was in the Peace Corp in Malaysia where he taught the locals farm equipment mechanics.
He passed 6 years ago and I miss him every day.

I worked at a Harley dealership in the early 90's.

As customers the Hells Angels were polite, agreeable, reasonable, and down to earth.

The exact opposite of a typical Harley enthusiast.

One day while at work, a member I was very familiar with mentioned an event or party that was happening soon and offered me an invite. I thanked him for the offer and said something like "I will consider it." One of my co-workers had overheard this, and very quickly everyone working at the dealership had heard of the invite. Throughout the day, my co-workers offered their theories as to the reasoning of why I was invited.

The theories widely ranged that they were considering me as a prospect or, they were going to set me up to take a fall for a sketchy drug deal or, they were going to use me as a human sacrifice to the devil.

Throughout the day, I pondered the invite. And I remembered reading one of Hunter S. Thompson's books and his experiences with the Hells Angels.

I came to the conclusion that I am overall mostly a law-abiding citizen, wished to remain so, and that no good could come from following up on the offer.

You were probably smart. A buddy of mine was going to the Oakland club house to do some business and invited me along and I said no.

I knew some of them vaguely.Of course can not mention names. Went on the Yuma Prison Run with 15 guys around 1984 or so. 3 of them were Angels but they did not fly colors. Most of the guys were Hispanic . Before we crossed the border we stopped at some guys house and the head guy said store the guns and drugs here because we were not going into Mexico from Yuma with them. About 12 of the guys had guns and drugs.

As soon as we crossed the border the Federales on Harleys stopped us and laid down the law. Basically behave ourselves which we did. Most of the riders were older than me, Vietnam vets that did not take any guff from anyone. Since most spoke Spanish they were able to talk to the feds.

It was a fun trip. About 7 days total. I had a hard time keeping up since most took pep pills and I did not . Very little sleep but hell of a good time. Wherever we stopped we got a lot of attention. Nice thing about Mexico at that time was beer and steaks were real cheap.

All the Angels I ever made friends with were pretty cool . Some were dangerous when drinking and taking pills. The prospects are the worse because they are trying to always impress.

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.
