Moscow appears delighted with the summit outcome. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the press on Monday that the summit was “Fabulous…better than super.” By contrast, Pompeo declined to talk to the press.


The Russians think that agreements were reached. On Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Defense said “The Russian Defense Ministry is ready for practical implementation of the agreements in the sphere of international security.” On Wednesday, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said Helsinki produced “important verbal agreements.”


Today, Putin told Russian diplomats that his meeting with Trump was “successful overall and led to useful agreements.”

Or what? A trade war will make the Chinese have to live like a 2nd world nation? Whatever the Chinese want to buy, they’ll find and cut the US out. Think about it. They have 10 to 25% margin to work with bargaining with other countries. And what if China decides to kick out American auto makers altogether? Not like the Chinese are adverse to driving BMW’s.

On a net balance, the US does very well with trade policies. If the “little guy” is getting screwed, that an internal problem for the US.

Just where do you think China is selling all their goods? We're by far their biggest customer. They sell a hell of a lot more to us than the other way around. Where are they going to go? The EU? They already sell there but the EU is almost as protectionist as they are. Africa? Seriously? The status quo means a much smaller middle class. Importing immigrants means low wages for the working class. No problem for you, you're one of the management class. Big problem for millions though.

I don’t follow trade matters all that much. Are we still their biggest customer after you factor in the amount of goods shipped to the states from US companies based in China? Isn’t that, like, half the trade deficit alone?
