The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming!

Putin would want to reconstitute Russian empire whether NATO existed or not. And I’d think that the world would be at greater risk of nuclear war in defending against it without NATO than it is with NATO. Because NATO provides credible deterrence against his attempting to do so in the first place.

Incorrect, if nato wasn't there then the members of it would have to build their own army's and pay for them, and the u.s gets dragged in either way. Nato was made so Europe didn't start another war

Putin asked to join a security alliance.

And it didn’t work out because as usual, Putin’s actions did not match up with his words.

George Robertson, a former Labour defence secretary who led Nato between 1999 and 2003, said Putin made it clear at their first meeting that he wanted Russia to be part of western Europe. “They wanted to be part of that secure, stable prosperous west that Russia was out of at the time,” he said.

The Labour peer recalled an early meeting with Putin, who became Russian president in 2000. “Putin said: ‘When are you going to invite us to join Nato?’ And [Robertson] said: ‘Well, we don’t invite people to join Nato, they apply to join Nato.’ And he said: ‘Well, we’re not standing in line with a lot of countries that don’t matter.’”

So credible deterrence would be lost. The US wouldn’t be automatically dragged in without defensive treaty obligations.

A lot of nato members don't have armies now, if nato didn't existence then would have armies, a lot of the military needs of nato members fall on the u.s, that is why a lot of those countries can do the free college and Healthcare because they have no military budget

No, it didnt need to exist after warsaw disappeared

Theres been billions in weapons sales to new nato members

War is a racket. they knew expanding nato was bad for policy, good for profits

Russia wanted to be part of a security system like nato but usa refused. germany was in favor

Now were paying high gas prices and risking nuclear war. ukraine will suffer - usa will drag it out at ukraines expense
Where are the missiles that so threaten Russia? That they have guns, tanks, helicopters, etc isn't a threat. That's defense. Where are the troops massed on Russia's border? The only player being aggressive in this entire farce is Russia. Exactly why there's a NATO.

NATO was formed because the Soviets had a foothold in Europe.
It’s why Rickyb’s well Russia tried to join nato is so stupid, yeah so did the Soviets, it’s like the coyotes joining the chicken coup, of course they are going to try.

Soviets had already gobbled up eastern Europe and NATO was created to stop it spreading further
